I’ve seen this ‘Scooping’ strategy on Instagram and started using it in my classroom (and with my tutoring students). First, clap out the syllables. Then, draw that many ‘scoops.’ Next, encode each chunk of the word. Finally, write the word underneath.@OCSBelementary@StMonicaOCSB
During recess today, several students showed me their ‘collection’ of snails. They have given them all names of course. I asked how they keep track of them and they showed me a special home they have created and cover with leaves at the end of each day.☺️ @ocsbEco@StMonicaOCSB
We started Bug Club Morphology today with the Intro Lesson! I think my enthusiasm caught on 🤗 Students were very engaged, asking questions and making lots of connections. Here is an excerpt from one student’s Word Study notebook… @StMonicaOCSB 📝❤️
I played the intro to one of my favourite childhood shows - The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers - to help solidify the meaning of the morpheme/term ‘morph’ which means ‘to change’. 🤣 Hopefully it helped! #BugClubMorphology@StMonicaOCSB@OCSBelementary@PowerRangers
The Grade 6s are learning about Space! I used Brisk to make some resources for my ML. So easy and amazing what you can create with the click of a button! ✨@StMonicaOCSB
The weather was absolutely beautiful today! We started reading ‘Sila and the Land’ and discussed the importance of only taking what we need, and not more. @ocsbindigenous@ocsbEco@StMonicaOCSB
Our first pizza day is in the books! 🍕We asked for more hands on deck and our volunteers answered with big hearts! Feeling extra grateful today, we really are the luckiest school EVER! #MONmoments ❤️🐾
Today, for National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, we were very fortunate to have the opportunity to help with the @CaringSociety ‘s Orange Shirt Day Action Tables @BeechwoodOttawa. Students assisted other children while they beaded, wrote letters and created artistic tiles.🧡
Enjoying our outdoor classroom space on a ‘Forest Friday!’ 🤎 I’m looking forward to many more of these with my PM class. The AM class has ‘Mother Nature Mondays’ - a great way to start and end the week! 🙂 @ocsbEco@StMonicaOCSB
My first month teaching at my old elementary school had been wonderful! @StMonicaOCSB, thank you for welcoming me so beautifully. I feel at home here for so many reasons ♥️
We’re learning about Ancient Civilizations in Social Studies! Students worked together to complete a worksheet on Ancient Egypt, using numbered clues. Great #collaboration@HolyFamilyOCSB
