I got into VR to use my body, not my wrist.

I prefer direct touch over pointing lately

Just noticed that what used to be an unsync button, is now a delete button. Makes sense, as far as I'm concerned there was little reason to merely unsync media.

ELI5: this is VR video you can move around in. It isn't just a wide angle 3D video strapped to your face.
We teamed up with researchers at Meta @RealityLabs to stress-test what's actually possible with Gaussian Splatting, and especially with volumetric video. Reconstructing buildings on a sunny day or celebrities in controlled studio conditions has gained a lot of traction. But what if the goal is to bring the viewer to an actual electronic rave, with zero compromises allowed? High-frequency strobing lights, fog machines filling the space with haze, complete darkness that clips the camera sensors to black. It was brutal, but together we pulled it off. We're proud to present a teaser of our joint project: an actual performance of 'Patience' by NYC electronic duo @membamusic, captured in full volumetric format and optimized for a wide range of devices. We didn't design this reconstruction around what the tech allows. Instead, we customised our pipeline to make the experience as immersive as possible. More details coming soon.

Since vergence and acommodation muscles work together in sync, I realized that if I cross my eyes really hard, my acommodation muscles also work really hard- harder than they naturally want to. So are there training exercises to recalibrate?

Given how generous the internet is being lately, tonight I'm plunging my face into my kitchen sink and calling it scuba diving.

Just gonna start logging these to track how many times I see it. Phone lives on charger with wifi every night.

I just burned through my Quest 3 battery wearing it as literally just a passthrough device. Just rawdogging it as bulky prescription glasses. 🤪

Alyx only turned VR into a place people demand $100M games
Replying to @thecathguy
What are you talking about? Even for people who couldn’t afford it, Alyx turned VR from a gimmick into a serious medium for entertainment. It rose the tide for all ships. The problem is no one followed Valve’s quality, and Meta spent billions turning VR back into a gimmick.

Half of all teens in the US own VR. Adults only think VR expensive because $300 is a lot to pay for something that they only know of as a cockpit sim enhancer.
Replying to @thecathguy
The core problem with the VR in the first place is that it's just far too expensive for the average person. VR games will never truly be successful unless full-feature, high-quality VR setups become cheap enough that the average person can purchase them without hesitation.

To "save the medium" requires marketing to the correct target audience, not middle-aged neckbeards who plop down on a couch.
Remember when valve made basically the best possible vr game and even that did not save the medium

Parallel 3D combined with nearsightedness (or reading glasses) is like having an IMAX 3D theater in my pocket 🤯

If you can freeview this in landscape, the effect is crazy good. I scaled this one down to 94% to make it slightly easier to align. Get some cheap reading glasses so you can bring your phone as close as possible. And now you can use your phone for watching movies. Oh... and put in earbuds for the full effect.

As soon as PSVR launched, indie VR game developers started getting overshadowed by big budget Sony and Oculus funded flat-derivative games. For a couple years there, the vocal enthusiasm for games like RE7, Moss, Wipeout, Tetris Effect, Hitman, etc suggested "real gamers" just wanted VR to have limited impact on game design.
