This is actually incredible! The Globe and Mail admitting to its total failure in covering the "unmarked grave" mass hysteria — an event that changed Canada, possibly irreparably. "The fact of the crimes committed against Indigenous children at residential schools over many decades does not automatically validate claims that hundreds of students were dumped into unmarked graves in Kamloops and other residential schools. That is an extraordinary assertion, one that requires proof. …The media, including The Globe and Mail, did not initially scrutinize, much less challenge, that assertion. The initial headlines and stories in the media simply stated as fact that the remains of 215 children had been found. Perhaps it will be proven, some day, that there are hundreds of unmarked graves at Kamloops. But it was not proven to be true in May, 2021. It is not proven to be true today. …The lesson of 2021 should be: assertions about residential schools should be listened to carefully, and then, just as carefully, held up to scrutiny.” Now do the scandal of paediatric gender medicine, @globeandmail. You have been just as gullible and your reporting has been just as atrocious. Assertions about "gender-affirming care" should also be held up to scrutiny. You frequently report that this treatment is life-saving, when there is no evidence that is true. You call puberty blockers fully reversible, when there is clear evidence that is false. You blindly accept the existence of "trans kids" without questioning where this sudden explosion of young people "born in the wrong body" came from. You appeal to the authority of medical associations, including the thoroughly discredited WPATH, and dismally fail to investigate the astonishing levels of fraud, corruption, and institutional capture.

Many still believe that immediate "gender affirmation" is the only compassionate path for a child in distress. However, a massive longitudinal study from Germany (Bachmann et al., 2024) proves that this "care" model is built on a foundation of shifting sand. doi.org/10.3238/arztebl.m202… By tracking nearly 14 million young people over a decade, the researchers found that the "affirmation-only" route ignores a critical biological reality: adolescence is fluid, not fixed. The Evidence the "Affirmers" Ignore: • The 72% Desistance Rate: In the largest group of concern—females aged 15–19—72.7% of those diagnosed in 2017 no longer had a gender diagnosis five years later. If we "affirm" a child with permanent medical interventions, we are interfering with a condition that, for the vast majority, resolves on its own within five years. • Explosive, Unexplained Growth: Diagnoses skyrocketed by 800% in just ten years. This isn't a natural biological shift; it's a social and clinical phenomenon that demands skepticism, not immediate medicalization. • The Complexity of the Child: Over 70% of these minors were already struggling with documented issues like depression, anxiety, ADHD, or autism. When we "affirm" a gender identity first, we risk masking and neglecting the underlying mental health struggles that require real help. The Call to Action: Stop the Medicalization of Minors This study is a wake-up call. The truth is that "affirming care" is often a fast track to life-altering medical consequences for a condition that the data shows is temporary for most teenagers. We must stop treating temporary adolescent distress with permanent medical solutions. It is time to return to a model of careful, paced assessment that prioritizes the long-term physical and mental health of the child over the immediate demands of an ideological "affirmation" model. Our children deserve a childhood free from irreversible medical experiments. Follow the data. Protect the children. Speak the truth. Don’t just take one study’s word for it. The evidence for adolescent desistance and the need for caution is backed by major health reviews worldwide: • The Cass Review (UK, 2024): A comprehensive independent review concluding that the evidence for pediatric medical transition is "remarkably weak" and calling for a holistic, therapy-first approach. Read the Final Report: [ARCHIVED CONTENT] Final Report Cass Review webarchive.nationalarchives.… • The Dutch "Life-Span" Study (Archives of Sexual Behavior, 2024): Researchers followed over 2,700 children for 15 years and found that "gender non-contentedness" is common in early adolescence but decreases significantly with age. View the Study Details: link.springer.com/article/10… • Swedish National Board of Health (2022/2024): Sweden, a pioneer in this field, has officially pivoted away from hormones for minors, citing a lack of evidence and the high rate of desistance and comorbidities. Read the Swedish Policy Shift: socialstyrelsen.se/en/about-… • The Finnish Medical Guidelines (PALKO/COHERE): Finland now prioritizes psychosocial support as the first-line treatment, noting that identity development is a natural part of adolescence that should not be medicalized. A young detransitioner, Fox Varian, has won $2 million damages in a medical malpractice lawsuit, in which she sued the psychologist and surgeon who approved her for a double mastectomy, aged 16. Varian's mother testified that she'd been against the surgery, but was pressured into agreeing because she'd been told that unless her daughter transitioned she was likely to commit suicide. As the floodgates open, and more and more detransitioners sue the clinicians who subjected them to an unregulated medical experiment, gender identity activists will almost certainly continue to ignore any evidence that fails to support their preferred narrative. They'll keep insisting that hardly any transitioned people regret their irreversible procedures, that gender clinicians know exactly what they're doing, that surgeries, cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers are of proven benefit and that minors who're denied these treatments will to kill themselves. All of this is a lie. Speaking at the WPATH conference in 2021, British endocrinology consultant Leighton Seal admitted 'we are doing procedures here where we don’t have outcome data.' A woman from Utah said she felt gender clinicians like her were making it up as they went along: 'Because I feel like we’re all just winging it, you know? And which is okay, you’re winging it too. But maybe we can just, like, wing it together.' (thefp.com/p/were-all-just-wi…) This will go down in history as one of the worst medical scandals of all time. Adults inside and outside the medical profession sold troubled young people like Varian the idea that all of their complex trauma would be resolved by removing healthy body parts. As more and more detransitioners arrive in court, the public will learn the full extent of the harm done to kids in the name of an ideology. Clinicians performing these 'treatments' will go down in history as barbarous activists who betrayed a sacred oath: to do no harm. But we should never forget how many people outside the medical profession urged these young people on, gleefully assuring them that anyone advising caution was an evil bigot. There are people in elitist professions like publishing and academia, not to mention politicians and celebrities with young fan bases, who did all they could to champion the idea of gender identity, and kept pushing it even as the evidence of harm mounted. They're just as culpable as the clinicians. Too lazy to think more deeply than the fashionable mantras that got them social media likes, too arrogant to look at evidence from anyone outside their political bubble, they've slurred whistleblowers and attacked anyone with valid questions. In doing so, they've created a cultural climate without which this appalling tragedy could not have taken place. Never forget, because only by learning the lesson can we stop this happening again. thefp.com/p/a-legal-first-th…

BREAKING: 1st Detransitioner to Take a Medical-Malpractice Lawsuit to Trial Wins $2 Million Judgement Fox Varian sued her Westchester, NY, area psychologist and plastic surgeon for the gender-transition mastectomy she got at 16. I was the only reporter to attend the entire 3-week, historic trial. Subscribe to my Substack to receive an alert about the feature article I have coming out next week in a major publication out about the trial: benryan.substack.com. I cover pediatric gender medicine as a specialty on my Substack. Sorry to just give just a teaser for now about the case! But I wanted to get the word out about the verdict promptly, the slower pace of feature-article publishing notwithstanding. The entire case file was put under seal when the trial started (although I obtained all those documents before they was sealed), and all the transcripts from the trial are also under seal. The riveting trial was sparsely attended and there was only one other reporter at the trial; and he only attended for part of it and, as I observed, took few notes. So my own hundreds of pages of notes from the trial will likely remain the only way for the public to learn about the all finer details of what transpired, possibly ever (or until an appeal, should that happen). In addition to my article coming out in the media outlet soon, I intend to write a lot about what I observed and learned on my Substack over the coming weeks. Stay tuned…

The astonishing fraud, corruption, ideological capture and ethical violations in the field of gender medicine make this scandal unrivalled in history. But it's not necessary to understand any of that in order to understand the severity of this medical crime. People just need to be reminded of some basic truths. The kids in gender clinics are kids like any other, meaning all the rules about child and adolescent development apply to them equally. And we know that adolescents do not have fixed, stable identities. Therefore, we also know that permanent, irreversible medical interventions that imprint adolescent identities onto the body could never be appropriate or ethical. This is the transcript of my talk in Red Deer on January 10th, complete with citations.

The rewriting of history begins. Opponents of gender ideology haven't merely 'endured unsparing criticism'. I haven't simply been told I 'betrayed real feminism' or received a few book-burning videos. I've been sent thousands of threats of murder, rape and violence. A trans woman posted my family's home address with a bomb-making guide. My eldest child was targeted by a prominent trans activist who attempted to doxx her and ended up doxxing the wrong young woman. I could write a twenty thousand word essay on what the consequences have been to me and my family, and what we've endured is NOTHING compared to the harm done to others. By standing up to a movement that relies on threats of violence, ostracisation and guilt-by-association, all of us have been smeared and defamed, but many have lost their livelihoods. Some have been physically assaulted by trans activists. Female politicians have been forced to hire personal security on the advice of police. The news that one of the UK's leading endocrinologists, Dr Hillary Cass, was advised not to travel by public transport for her own safety should shame everyone who let this insanity run amok. Lest we forget, gender apostates have been targeted for crimes such as doubting the evidential basis for transitioning children, for arguing for fair sport for women and girls, for wanting to retain single sex spaces and services, especially for the most vulnerable, and for thinking it barbaric to lock in female prisoners with convicted male sex offenders. Now the political landscape has shifted, and some who've been riding high on their own supply are waking up with a hell of a hangover. They've started wondering whether calling left-wing feminists who wanted all-female rape centres 'Nazis' was such a smart strategy. Maybe parents arguing that boys ought not to be robbing their daughters of sporting opportunities might, sort of, have a point? Possibly letting any man who says 'I'm a woman' into the locker room with twelve-year-old girls could have a downside, after all? Mealy-mouthed retconning of what has actually happened over the past ten years is predictable but will not stand. I don't doubt those who've turned a blind eye to the purges of non-believers, or even applauded and encouraged them, would rather minimise what the true cost of speaking out was, but 'yes, maybe trans activists went a little over the top at times' takes are frankly insulting. A full reckoning on the effects of gender ideology on individuals, society and politics is still a long way off, but I know this: the receipts will make very ugly reading when that time comes, and there are far too many of them to sweep politely under the carpet.

Celebrities who stampeded to cheerlead for experimental procedures on minors will find it extremely difficult to pretend they were inwardly sceptical all along, especially after rushing to smear as hateful and bigoted anyone questioning the evidence base for handing out puberty blockers, irreversible surgeries and hormones to children. If it were up to me, the doctors involved would all be in jail, but an honest assessment of how these children have been harmed must also examine the culture in which the scandal took place. Deviation from ethical standards of care has become not only acceptable, but laudable, and that's because large parts of elite professions, including medicine, had fallen for a dangerous, incoherent, quasi-religious ideology that's done widespread harm. Gender identity ideology only spread as far and as widely as it did because so many people in positions of power and influence fell over themselves to champion it in the belief that this proved they were super-progressive and sophisticated. I can only hope the photo ops and social media likes were worth it. Personally, if I'd publicly fundraised and advocated for child transition and then read @LeorSapir's article, I'd never sleep again.

It is far more important to keep women and children safe than to pretend that some man’s mental illness is our new reality
The core question of the transgender debate is: Is it more important to cater to the feelings of mentally ill men, or to keep women and girls safe while affirming reality?

Please explain what differentiates a trans woman from 'a man in a dress and make up', because I've been playing close attention to trans activists for a decade now and the most common explanation I've been given is 'he says he's a woman, so play along or you're evil.' Runner up explanations: A man is a trans woman if he's put in a lot of effort into looking like a woman. However, a man who's made no such effort is just as valid a trans woman as one who does. Trans women with beards and penises are completely valid. The existence of men and women with differences of sexual development ('intersex' people) prove that a completely different group of people who don't have such disorders are trans if they say they are. The true mark of who's a man or a woman isn't biological sex, but the untestable gender identity that resides in all human beings, whether or not they believe in it. At the same time, trans people must be given easy, automatic access to cross-sex hormones and surgeries so they can alter themselves to more closely resemble the opposite biological sex.

This this thisity this. And it all applies to @jonronson too (except of course, Ronson lacks the ability to apologise even now)
Gladwell’s career wouldn’t have been destroyed if he’d spoken out against the glaring unfairness, not to mention dangers, of allowing men to compete in women’s sport. He’d have faced loss of approval from the cultural elite and received activist blowback, and even that wouldn’t have come with the tsunami of death and rape threats women face when they speak. Non-famous people, mostly women, girls and gay people, have genuinely had their careers and indeed lives destroyed for saying what Gladwell was too pusillanimous to say, and Gladwell didn’t lift a finger in their defence. Like many well-known liberals, he was happy to watch members of the great unwashed bullied, traduced and defamed, fine with the erosion of freedom of speech, comfortable with young women being robbed of sporting honours and facing serious injury, because he valued his own standing and security more highly than acting on the feeble promptings of his conscience. A rash of condescending men will swarm my mentions when I post this to tell me I should be pleased about Gladwell’s cautious backtracking. No. He hasn’t changed. He’s merely sensed a shift in what it’s acceptable to say and feels safe to align himself with the new consensus, excuses for his previous behaviour to the fore. He isn’t an ally, he’s a weathervane. Changing sides years late, and only after you’ve realised the non-elite opposition is winning, isn’t a mark of integrity but of arse-covering. Those whose overriding focus is remaining in good odour with the in crowd can never be trusted. Gender identity ideology has been the modern arts world’s McCarthyism, and all Gladwell’s done is reveal himself as a man who’d have named names, but felt a bit uncomfortable about it afterwards.
