Interested in injury prevention and rehabilitation in baseball? This might be an interesting meeting. I will talk about ways to possibly prevent injury and how to optimize native tissue repair after injury. It should be fun! tinyurl.com/py869z8k

The question of how incretin-mimetics (i.e., GLP-1RA like semaglutide) affect muscle mass and function is very important and has been haunting the field for quite a while now. So, I am particularly pleased to share our recent paper on the matter: medrxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Our pre-clinical studies are still going strong too. If you ever wonder how we exercise our 3D engineered human ligaments, here my student Jared Ong is loading them into their gym (bioreactor) and placing them in the incubator.

After six days of loading, we measure the size and strength of the ligaments by loading them into the 3D printed grips that we designed for our @instron material tester.

I'm super excited to start playing with our new @KangaTech_ KT360 RFD. We are hoping that this will help us develop the next generation of training plans to reverse tendinopathy. Studies on PHT, PT, AT, shoulder, and elbow programs are all in the works.

Here is a great opportunity to work with an outstanding young researcher. If you want to study muscle metabolism, you are going to want to apply for this position.
Hey Muscle And Metabolism Folks on Twitter, @LykkeSylow and I are looking for a Postdoc who is interested in applying for a prestigious @DDEA_Denmark fellowship with us. More details in the picture attached. Please share widely! @MYOTWlTTER

NEW podcast episode is up! Dr. Keith Baar, UC Davis — Simple Exercises That Can Repair Tendons (Tennis Elbow, etc.), Collagen Fact vs. Fiction, Isometrics vs. Eccentrics, JAK Inhibitors, Growth Hormone vs. IGF-1, The Anti-RICE Protocol, and How to Use Load as an Anti-Inflammatory Dr. Keith Baar is a Professor at the University of California, Davis in the Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology. During his Ph.D. studies, his research revealed that mechanical strain on muscle fibers activates the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, a crucial regulator of muscular hypertrophy.  Subsequently, he studied the molecular dynamics of skeletal muscle adaptation to endurance training under the guidance of Dr. John Holloszy, a legend in the field of exercise physiology, considered the father of modern exercise biochemistry. Building on all of this experience, he conducted research into tendon health and the potential for engineering ligaments, which could have implications for treatment and recovery from injuries. Dr. Baar now runs the Functional Molecular Biology Lab at UC Davis. His lab’s work ranges from studying molecular changes in our cells to conducting studies to effect real-world improvements in people’s health, longevity, and quality of life. Please enjoy!

Does anyone know if LC Labs is still open and shipping chemicals? I can't get a hold of anyone and just need to know if we need to look elsewhere. Thanks.

In this one, we show that saturated fatty acids decrease collagen synthesis and make tendons, ligaments, and bone weaker. This means that people who are overweight or eat high saturated fat diets may find that their connective tissues get weaker.

This can likely be minimized by proper exercise, but whether exercise can overcome this global change to tendons, ligaments, and bones is still an open question. Also, this could be one reason why it is hard for obese individuals to start, and stick with, an exercise program.
