Message by the Convenor of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, MNA on World Day Against Child Labour – 12 June 2026
"On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, observed on 12 June 2026, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to protecting every child in Pakistan from exploitation and ensuring their fundamental rights to education, dignity, safety, and a secure future.
Child labour remains one of the most pressing challenges confronting our society. It robs children of their childhood, deprives them of educational opportunities, and exposes them to physical, psychological, and social harm. Beyond the suffering it inflicts on individual children, child labour perpetuates cycles of poverty and inequality that undermine our collective progress and national development.
I firmly believe that eliminating child labour requires a comprehensive and sustained approach that extends beyond raising awareness. It demands strong political commitment, effective enforcement of existing laws, strengthened child protection mechanisms, expanded access to quality education, and enhanced social protection measures for vulnerable families. Addressing the root causes of child labour, including poverty, school exclusion, and limited economic opportunities, is essential to achieving lasting and meaningful change.
As Convenor of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights, I remain fully committed to advancing this important agenda through legislative reforms, policy advocacy, and parliamentary oversight. I will continue to work closely with parliamentarians, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and all relevant stakeholders to strengthen child protection frameworks and ensure that children's rights remain at the forefront of our national priorities.
I firmly believe that every child belongs in a classroom, not in a workplace. Education remains the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a brighter, more prosperous, and equitable future for our nation.
On this important day, I call upon all stakeholders—including government institutions, civil society, development partners, the private sector, media, communities, and families—to join hands in eliminating child labour in all its forms. Protecting children is not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility that reflects the values and character of our society.
Let us renew our collective resolve to build a Pakistan where every child is safe, educated, empowered, and able to realize their full potential.
Together, we can ensure a future free from child labour."
