Big water 💧challenges require bold engineering. Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Afsluitdijk dam in the Netherlands, a project that completely transformed Dutch water management. By creating a massive freshwater reservoir from the sea, it fundamentally altered our map🗺️, even changing the name of the water from the Zuiderzee to the IJsselmeer. The visit is another step forward for our cooperation, as India is planning its own ambitious coastal reservoir projects. With newly signed agreements on water collaboration, our water experts are ready to team up on water challenges. We look forward to sharing technical knowledge and working together on the future of water infrastructure.🌊🕶️

If there’s one thing the Netherlands excels at, it is dealing with water. India has shown considerable interest in our expertise in the field of water management. We’re looking to deepen our cooperation in this area. 

That’s why, together with Prime Minister @narendramodi, I visited an icon among Dutch water engineering structures: the Afsluitdijk barrier dam.

Here, we learned about the history of the dam, how it protects us from flooding and how it enables innovative and sustainable forms of energy.   🇳🇱🤝🇮🇳

A historic moment for our bilateral ties: The India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership is official! 🇮🇳✨🇳🇱 Prime Minister @narendramodi and Prime Minister @MinPres have sealed a Strategic Partnership that redefines our cooperation for the decades to come. In a turbulent world, this partnership grants real advantages: higher earning capacity, sharper innovation, and stronger security for both nations. This means more than just cooperation; it aids in strengthening economic resilience, strategic leverage, and long-term stability. A result of hard work and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

At times of international uncertainty, it’s especially important that we can rely on like-minded and valued partners. Both India and the Netherlands attach great importance to democracy, good governance and a world order based on rules and justice.   My discussion with Prime Minister @narendramodi this evening included the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has resulted in high energy prices. As in the Netherlands, the impact on India has been severe too. So it’s vital that this conflict bebrought to an end and that a lasting solution be found. We also spoke about the case regarding the abduction of Insiya to India by her father.

The friendship between India and the Netherlands is in full bloom, asunderscored by the visit of Prime Minister @narendramodi to the Netherlands. We’re now taking that bond to an even higher level as we enter into a Strategic Partnership with one another.

This partnership is already bearing fruit. Multiple letters of intent have been or are being signed this weekend in such areas as defence cooperation, the development of major new technologies and innovations, healthcare and water management. ASML and Tata Electronics have also signed a letter of intent in a key step towards deeper cooperation in the semiconductor industry. 
This builds on the major, historic trade agreement concluded between India and the EU earlier this year. In short, we’re making tremendous strides in our cooperation, creating a true win-win situation.   🇳🇱🤝🇮🇳
