Today, we honor the heroes who stormed the beaches of France 82 years ago to save the world. As we mark the anniversary of D-Day, we also remember the ingenuity of a native Nebraskan, Andrew Jackson Higgins, who designed the landing boats used by Allied forces.

Heads up for travelers in western Nebraska. I-80 is currently closed between Ogallala and Big Springs because of a crash. That’s mile marker 126-107 in both directions.
TRAFFIC ALERT: A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Ogallala is causing traffic delays. I-80 westbound lanes near Mile Marker 119 are expected to open soon, but the eastbound lanes will likely remain closed for several hours. Check 511.Nebraska.gov for the latest.

Riding season is here & it’s a good time to remind everyone to look twice for bikes. Motorcycles are easier to see when you’re NOT distracted!! If you ride, you can’t blame someone in a car for not seeing you if you’re riding too fast, unsafe, or are creating the hazards.

Memorial Day is here! While today may include barbecues, road trips, and trips to the lake, it also marks the start of the “100 Deadliest Days” for teen drivers. Before teens hit the road this summer, talk with them about safe driving habits. One safe decision can save a life.

They gave everything in service to our country and generations of Americans. Some recent, others of the distant past. All heroes. On Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifice made by our nation’s heroes over our 250 years. May their names and memory live forever.

Thankful the driver, our Trooper and loyal K-9 partner weren’t injured. This is yet another strong reminder: 🚨avoid distractions, 🚨pay attention, 🚨yield to 🚔, 🚨buckle up, 🚨phone down, 🚨slow down.
This morning in west Omaha, a Trooper was driving to a call with lights and sirens when a truck drove around vehicles that were properly yielding and turned right in front of the Trooper. Thankfully there were no injuries, including to the NSP K9 in the unit. The other driver received citations from @DCSheriffNE. Always yield to emergency vehicles.

This week — and every week — let’s give EMS crews a hand. 🚑⚠️ Slow Down or Move Over for all flashing lights and give them room to work on the roadside. Protect the people who protect you.
