Historic moment for the Pacific 🌏👏 Congratulations to @SamoaUN's Mataafa Faatino Utumapu and @PalauMission's Villaney Remengesau on their election to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. With an estimated 15% of Pacific populations living with disabilities, their leadership and advocacy will help ensure the voices and rights of persons with disabilities across the region are strongly represented internationally. Wishing them both every success during their terms on the Committee 🇼🇸🇵🇼

Congratulations to H.E. Mr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the General Assembly at its 81st session! At a time when the UN is facing immense pressure, the role of the PGA is no longer simply procedural. I wish the PGA-elect nothing but success in guiding the work of all 193 Member States and defending the UN and its Charter during a particularly consequential 81st session.

🇳🇿is proud to join 40 other members of the Inter-Regional Task Force in reaffirming our opposition to the death penalty in all cases and circumstances. The fight for universal abolition is a fight for human dignity.
🇪🇺 is alarmed by the spike in the death penalty in 2025, as per @Amnesty's just released report. We urge all UNMS to support GA resolution on the moratorium on the use of the death penalty, presented on behalf of IRTF. 👉The joint IRTF statement: eeas.europa.eu/delegations/u…

May 2026 marks 10 years since UNSC Resolution 2286 - protecting healthcare in armed conflict. 🇳🇿 is proud to have co-led this landmark effort with Egypt, Japan, Spain, & Uruguay in 2016. The resolution was historic, the first of its kind on this issue & supported by over 80 countries - making it one of the most widely co-sponsored UNSC resolutions. Yet attacks on medical workers & facilities continue. This is unacceptable. Protecting healthcare is not optional. This resolution matters as much today as it did in 2016. MFAT teams in New York & Geneva will be marking the moment @NZUN @NZUNGVA
