"Just last year, a study by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services found that refugees from across the world in the U.S. contributed over $123 billion more than they had cost the government from 2005 to 2019. expertise to help Americans with their pharmaceutical needs."
Thousands of Afghan allies remain in limbo—some face deportation after being legally evacuated, while others are stranded abroad. In this @USNews op-ed @mustafababak and @yaronschwartz, argue how U.S. policy is falling short—morally and economically. tinyurl.com/7tutj675

"Mustafa saw this with his own family. His dad was a doctor in Afghanistan who, after coming to the U.S. as a refugee, ended up working at a pharmacy, where he leveraged his medical expertise to help Americans with their pharmaceutical needs."

Powerful arguments for the impracticality and short sightedness of this administration's immigration policies.

I'm hearing that this student was Afghan. Chelsea is so right, the mental health crisis is #misogyny for both Afghan and Iranian women and girls. #EndGenderApartheid
Iranian student #ArezooKhavari took her own life today after being sent home from a school trip for wearing jeans instead of the school’s recommended attire. She had received harassment and threats for months for refusing the mandatory hijab and this seemed to be the final straw for Arzoo. The school failed to offer condolences to Arzoo’s family or even follow up after the incident. Not naked. No stripping. Just a girl who wanted to wear the clothes she wanted to wear and was driven to feel she was better off dead by adults who had been charged with protecting her. The “mental health crisis” in Iran is called misogyny.

"Our voice is our weapon. We will not be silenced." Afghan women inside Afghanistan continue their campaign of singing in protest against the ban on their voices. Now, the Taliban even bans women from hearing each other's voices. #Power2AfghanWomen

Words from Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister of Vice and Virtue, who has banned women from hearing each other’s voices: “Women are not even allowed to say Alhamdulillah, let alone sing.” Afghan women’s message to him: We will keep singing.

Artist @ghawgha1 sang this song in 2019 when Taliban were talking peace with the US in Doha, killing our loved ones in Kabul. Now, Taliban have banned women's voices: Of love, of hope, of what tomorrow may bring—you have no fear I kiss you, surrounded by Taliban; you're unafraid

Today’s ban on women’s voices in each other’s presence comes from Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, Taliban’s Minister of Vice&Virtue, who published a 100 page book of edicts against women last month. Every ban on women has a face behind it & must be held accountable for gender apartheid.

It's okay to retire. You've done enough.
The @nytimes piece on Sarajuddin Haqqani, one of the main leaders of the Taliban government- with a history of terror attacks, kidnapping, and links with groups such Al-Qaida - posits that he is a “changed man” who can take the Taliban in a new direction. Two points: 1. It is important to recognize that Mr Haaqani is not alone at being open to a more moderate posture and to the West. They include Mullah Yaqub and Mullah Barader, among others, for example, also oppose the restrictions on girls' and women's education. 2. Should the US approach to these leaders be driven by the past and a desire for revenge, or by our interests and objectives going forward? I favor the latter approach, but we need to test their intentions and their ability to deliver. It is too soon to jump to happy conclusions. #Afghanistan @NSA @SecDef @POTUS @realdonaldtrump

A mess. He starts with mild outrage that NYT published a known terrorist and then says there are more not so bad guys in his gang. (Looking forward to their opeds?) And recommends testing Tb intentions before dealing with them. Cute idea. ZK, why didn't you do that?

“I want to go to school!” In Sept. 2021, an Afghan girl filmed a powerful speech against the Taliban’s ban on girls' education. Over 3 years later, the Taliban continues to prevent girls over the age of 12 from going to school. It's time to #EndGenderApartheid in Afghanistan!
