Another epic failure of the Nantucket Steamship Authority brain trust. People are getting into the reservation system but are locked out of summer reservations.

Due to system issues that prevented a smooth beginning to Nantucket “head start” reservations on Jan 16th, the Steamship Authority is canceling the Jan 23rd general public reservation opening date. No new date has been announced at this time.

The Steamship Authority continues to think there is an endless pot of money at their disposal and makes “rate adjustments” for 2024. In the real world, not attempting to disguise anything, these are called fare increases. Thanks again @SteamshipMA.

Not counting the night that the Steamship Authority crashed their #Nantucket high speed ferry into the Hyannis jetty, this has to be the worst day in the history of the #SSA. In 25 years, have never seen a first day reservation system fail so much with so many errors.

I am estimating that at least 100,000 hours of people’s time is being wasted this morning trying make #Nantucket ferry reservations for the 2023 summer. At one point there were 11,000 people waiting in the “queue”

Continuing the string of high priced Nantucket sales recently, The Martin House Inn sold for $6.3 million. The Beachside Hotel sold for $38 million. The Nantucket Inn near the airport sold for $30 million. Doesn’t bode well for room affordability on #Nantucket going forward.

Our incredible run of attending every #NantucketStroll #ACKStroll since 2001 has ended due to overpriced rooms, 3 night minimums, closed restaurants, COVID, and fewer events each year on Main Street. Maybe next year, we’ll see. We’ll be at the #Chatham stroll next weekend!

The #Brantpointinn on Nantucket, a favorite of many travelers for decades has closed. The “Brant Point Properties were transferred for 10 million dollars”.

Could this be the end of the Nantucket Christmas Stroll as we know it? We are not paying $609/night with a three night minimum - $2037. Go ahead and price your event out of sight. Maybe a one day ferry is in order IF the weather is good. Maybe not.

Has anyone else come to the conclusion that the Boston Pops on Nantucket isn’t happening in 2021? The Nantucket Cottage Hospital won’t give out any information other than “stay tuned” and it’s getting very late. The only conclusion that can be drawn is it won’t happen.
