Could be true, but either way, provides him with a face-saving exit from his previous threats. 2. Says serious negotiations are now taking place. They have been taking place all weekend, but a small breakthrough may have been achieved. 3. Emphasizes only "no nuclear weapons" as criterion for his deal. No mention of enrichment or stockpile. May prove crucial. 4. Overall, tries to give the impression that he is in control and that only he dictates the direction of the situation. None of that is entirely true, but understandable that he wants to give that impression. Conclusion: Once again, Trump has realized that escalation will end up badly for the US. That does not necessarily mean, though, that the necessary realism, discipline, and creativity will be mustered for the talks.

At this point, our guy is groveling for a deal. Iran has the opportunity to get itself an acceptable deal. Everyone has had enough. Economic pain is being inflicted on millions by this conflict (common people who have had nothing to do with it).
