At the @YouthAPPG yesterday I was asked what youth work in 2035 would look like? These are my top points;
1) Amidst the wave of technology youth work will hold the line on human connection to break loneliness.

2) With austerity as the new normal and statutory services overwhelmed, youth work will increasingly function as early intervention by default and will be recognised accordingly.

3) Whilst holding the line on human connection youth work will compliment it's delivery through online detached work using the same principles developed in traditional detached work. As with traditional detached, youth workers will go where other agencies can't/won't.

As Deputy Prime Minister, I’m focused on delivering for the British people and I tend to ignore the noise.
But in the past week I’ve been sent stories about:
– A Reform mayoral candidate telling me to “go home” to the Caribbean where he said my “loyalties lie”.
– A Reform councillor’s TikTok account endorsing a comment calling me a “greedy none (sic) thoroughbred”.
– A Reform council leader referring to me saying “no foreign national or first-generation migrant should be allowed to sit in Parliament” - apparently unaware I’m a British citizen born in North London.
I will never be cowed by racism. But I will call it what it is.
@Nigel_Farage, you need to clean up your party and stamp out this 1950s-style hate.

The Government could take an interesting angle here - 1) the traditional route of tackling youth unemployment through employability programmes, or 2) recognise the broader issue of well-being and address the issue though programmes that demonstrably improve mental health.
