I will be attending @acm_chi #chi2025 in Japan next week to present my 1st, first-authored CHI paper! Since my infant will accompany me, I will only attend the sessions on Monday and part of Tuesday. I would love to meet new people and catch up with old friends while I am there

In another paper, through a participatory assets-based approach, researchers support collaborators to reflect & describe intimate details, highlighting specific use-contexts of technology in their lives as parents of young children. medium.com/acm-cscw/intimate…

The collective wisdom of this paper comes from @DrSaarunya @sandrannadi1 @AmarachiMbakwe, who constantly inspired me with their stories of resilience, my PhD advisors @mccricks & Aisling, & the best consequence I've faced so far by 'replying-all' on an email thread,@gautamaakash

On a personal level, this work helped me define my vulnerabilities, & to discover my strengths emerging from amalgamation of my intersecting identities.Shoutout also to @AcademicChatter #phdlife #phdchat @Momademia & @mothersinsci,which aided our search of potential collaborators

I came back from #CHI2022 on Tuesday and have not tested positive 4 Covid. But I have very positive feelings any the experience itself. The most prominent one is of gratitude for the opportunity to meet friends & researchers I look up to, making me realize why I love what I do.

Highlights of this experience would be taking a course conversing with @JanetRead, talking shop with @cfiesler, & brief encounters with @nehakumar & @juliekientz, some of the researchers and folks I secretly fangirled after starting my PhD.

Also grateful for the opportunity to attend, participate in the conference with my friends/lab mates and ever-supportive advisor @mccricks. Tweeting this to document my first (?!) and probably last in-person conference experience as a PhD student :)

Also, on a day-to-day basis as a software engineer or a computer scientist, you must constantly interact with people. Both jobs are *extremely* social. If you think CS is about objects and not people, I don't think I'd want to work with you

Another thing that bothers me about the whole "girls don't like CS because they prefer people over objects" bullshit is that CS is very strongly about people, just the more people-focused areas of CS are devalued, despite them being the areas of highest societal consequence
