Today marks my last day as one of the University’s Pro Vice-Chancellors. This has been a great role and I have enjoyed it immensely; full of challenges and surprises. But to be clear this is not retirement! Now it is time to get back to teaching and research!

On the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction, I take this opportunity to highlight one of the most critical and growing risks in the Himalaya, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). These instantaneous floods occur when the damming moraine of proglacial lake fails.
