Businesses should optimize the pursuit of profits, not maximize. At some point profits must be traded off against utility, value for money, and ethics. Trying to maximize profits is anti-progress. It means dropping basic ethics and sticking two fingers up at customers.

Dr Michael Foran, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oxford, has been forced to cancel his four-part lecture series halfway through following sustained abuse from trans activists. The lectures explored themes from his new book, examining how sex and gender have shaped the law in debates over single-sex spaces, freedom of expression, privacy, sport and sexual intimacy. As Foran prepared to begin his first lecture on 29 May, two protesters marched to the front of the hall and addressed the audience from the lectern. They returned to disrupt the second lecture on 5 June. One protester claimed that Foran “masks his transphobia behind a thin veneer of academia”. He went on to say: “If you are here in a critical capacity to challenge his ideas… that is not the same as refusing to platform him. He will not be convinced by your arguments. Please join me in walking out and refusing to platform this bigot.” This episode is a damning indictment of universities’ inability — or unwillingness — to uphold free speech and academic freedom, and to discharge the responsibilities placed upon them by law. Question posed from a blocked account: do most "gender-critical" people object to nontherapeutic "circumcision" (i.e. #MGM)? I do. Very strongly. I really hope most others do too. It is horribly inconsistent to say it's wrong to mutilate girls but fine to mutilate boys.

Bizarre that Barry Gardiner thinks "faith", or "tradition", or "they believe God told them to do it" amounts to a justification for mutilating children. Also why does he focus on Jews? He must know that most penis mutilations in UK aren't done to/by Jews.

‘It would be an attack on the Jewish faith.’ Barry Gardiner debates where to draw the line on religious and cultural boundaries regarding circumcision and other practices, as the Green Party seeks to introduce a ban.

This is one aspect of debates about genderist ideology we should mention more often: The problem is not just the wrongness. It's the sheer stupid wastefulness, given all the other tricky practical and moral issues we could have been spending our time and money on.
This is so great to hear. Also great to hear the howls of outrage from the dumbest generation of politicians to ever walk the earth.

Worth remembering that MGM (male genital mutilation, or "circumcision" to those who prefer euphemisms) became a highly fashionable norm in UK upper classes in early 19thC, but by the 1940s this Scottish doctor was already strongly advising against it. cirp.org/library/general/gai…

Very sad to say goodbye to the inspirational David Hockney. Nipping out now to scour my local charity shops for a Hockney tribute cardigan.

If someone says "it's traditional" or "God tells us to do this" as their way of justifying cruel mutilation of children, that's a clear indication that they have no serious moral justification.
All forms of non-consensual cutting of children's genitals raise serious child rights concerns, and risk lasting sexual, psychological and physical harm – including death. Religious or cultural tradition should never place a practice beyond scrutiny. jewishnews.co.uk/green-party…

Good to see this starting to get coverage. Remember, "circumcision" is a euphemism for mutilation. When done to children with no consent and no medical justification it is extremely cruel and clearly should be illegal. Of course MGM isn't "the same" as FGM. Both are immoral.

"There is no legal requirement for circumcizers to be medically trained." If that doesn't shock you into joining the debate, think again. But we shouldn't need to point to botched circumcisions to be aware that nontherapeutic mutilation of children is cruel and disgusting.

Now that Greens have brought #MGM (male genital mutilation) back into the news again, let's hope other parties and community/religious leaders quickly join the debates. Horrific deaths and complications matter, but the main thing to focus on is the needless cruelty.

A ban on nontherapeutic circumcision would put in question "the future of the UK as a tolerant society". We've already agreed we won't tolerate adults mutilating the genitalia of defenceless girls. Now let's honestly discuss: why, in 2026, do we tolerate mutilation of boys?

Some of Greens are against mutilating little boys' willies? Really? We all know why they won't push it through. But now PLEASE let's have a calm UK-wide debate about why, in 2026, it is still only illegal to mutilate a child's genitalia if the child happens to be a girl.
