How Ripple Prime Uses XRP
Here are the key ways XRP is integrated:
• OTC Spot Trading
U.S. institutional clients can execute over-the-counter (OTC) spot transactions in XRP (along with RLUSD and dozens of other major digital assets) through Ripple Prime.
• Collateral and Margin Financing
Institutions can post XRP as collateral/margin. This allows them to borrow against their XRP holdings and trade other instruments (such as CME futures) without selling their XRP. Ripple Prime CEO Mike Higgins has publicly confirmed this use case, noting that XRP functions as an active trading collateral alongside assets like Bitcoin.
• Broader Ecosystem Integration and Settlement
Ripple states that XRP (along with its RLUSD stablecoin) is “leveraged across these solutions” (including Ripple Prime, Payments, and Custody) to make traditional finance more efficient. There are also plans to migrate post-trade settlement activity onto the XRP Ledger (XRPL), where XRP serves as the native asset for transaction fees and liquidity.
