Lucas was right. Each Indiana Jones movie is about grappling with the implications of a particular faith being true; Crystal Skull is about atheism/postwar adhoc secularized spirituality (that's why the bad guys are Soviets!)
Kathleen Kennedy says that Harrison Ford & Steven Spielberg struggled with the inclusion of aliens in ‘KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL’. “They didn’t want to do a Raiders movie that involved aliens, and they kind of got into a fight with George Lucas about it.” (Source: vulture.com/article/oral-his…)

found the first conspiracy theory that I believe
Take Steven Spielberg's name off Disclosure Day and slap M Night Shyamalan's name on it and its a 12% Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Guaranteed.

Spoiler Alert: Disclosure Day isn't really about aliens or anything like that. It's about magical glow sticks that are never explained or exposited, but comprise the overwhelming bulk of the plot. They also do whatever Spielberg and Koepp need them to do whenever the plot runs aground.

The andor show is old and tired, man in his late 60s writing extended didactic monologues from another time for tired actors to read out. It is the Labour Party of the 70s & 80s in prestige TV gloss.

By all means, search online and read Frank Darabont's Indy 4 script! A couple of highlights: - A monkey poops on Indy's chest during an aerial action scene - The film dramatically concludes with Indy declaring "Welcome to Earth" and shooting the alien to death with a carbine Gee, it's hard to see why George thought this one might have needed a little work!
The original script from Frank Darabont: City of the Gods is so much better. You can find it online. Read it.

1. George was a teenager in the 50s 2. He was obsessed with hot rod car culture 3. That inspired his film American Graffiti 4. Coruscant is New York in Star Wars 5. Movies can be fun

The Jympson assembly cut that Lucas fired him over gets repurposed by fanboys as "George's first cut was a slow, undramatic mess" when that assembly wasn't what George wanted/wasn't his cut. Alan Ladd Jr was relieved when George told him it wasn't how he wanted the film edited

It should be noted that Marcia Lucas herself, in "Howard Kazanjian: A Life" by J.W. Rinzler, seems to suggest that the idea of a "time limit" might have been, or actually was, fellow editor Paul Hirsch's idea. Her memory seems a bit hazy. I believe Paul Hirsch agrees in his own book that it was his idea, but I don't own a copy of it, so someone would have to check me on that. However, this was simply an ADDITIONAL time limit. The Death Star was always going to be slowly approaching the Yavin moon in order to destroy it. As we can see as early as the January 1976 version of the fourth draft, from well before the editors had the above discussion (notice Ben Kenobi is even still alive on Yavin), the princess sits in a control room with generals watching a "giant display" depicting the Death Star as a "red dot" that "moves ever closer to the system." We see this display in the movie, still playing a major role in creating tension.

That story about how the whole concept that the Death Star was about to destroy the rebel base was created in editing is wild.

From "In Tribute to Marcia Lucas," by Michael Kaminski, the author of 'The Secret History of Star Wars": "One curiosity of note is that [Marcia] was one of the few people who was in favor of the Jabba the Hutt scene (before the Greedo dialogue was re-written), and initially argued in favour of keeping it in the film."

This sequence feels strangely unlike Star Wars stylistically, because it spends so much time going, "Welp, here's our hero! Here's her hardscrabble life! Here are the breathtaking vistas which form the dramatic backdrop to her singular loneliness!" whereas in the earlier films the plot simply and suddenly arrives at where the main heroes are, and they are called onto the stage comparatively humbly and inauspiciously. Even though Luke is at least granted the privilege of a theme to accompany his introduction, it is a markedly subdued version of it, containing at most a hint of something potentially greater. Ironic, given that Rey is supposed to be the "nobody."
Rey's dialogue-less intro with Williams' theme gets me everytime

Disney: "George Lucas was able to create an all NEW generation of Star Wars fans, and he did it with wooden dialogue and early 2000's CGI!!" Jon Favreau: "I'm sorry. I'm not George Lucas."
