There's actually a great untapped opportunity for an elite college to curate a student body that is explicitly pro-Western civilization, anti-third wordlist, and pro-market. They would immediately distinguish themselves from their direct competitors.

I've been reading freud along with early derrida on husserl and heidegger, and the connection clicked as soon as I read freud in one of the first introductory lectures equate sense, intention, and meaning

you don't need to read theory. you need to be educated on *current* politics. you need to know what is happening in the present, and which policies are effective for improving the world *now*

"mental life is the arena and battle ground for mutually opposing purposes... it consists of contradictions and pairs of contraries... It is only a question of the attitude of these contraries to each other, and of what effects are produced by the one and by the other." - Freud

This episode is so good; I've been going through some of Lacan's ecrits and Freud's Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis and I'll make sure to dig back into my copy of the Wretched of the Earth and check this book out in tandem
Episode 28: FANON AND PSYCHIC RESISTANCE Lara Sheehi joins us to discuss the legacy of Franz Fanon, what psychoanalysis can offer liberation struggles, Zionism as the denial of Palestinian interiority, and the psychic dimensions of occupation and resistance.

The merits of defund/abolish aside, I simply reject the premise that opposing cops and prisons is this intractable part of socialism that we should or should not compromise on. All the way up until like 2019 the dominant Marxist stance on policing was one of relative neutrality.
