The Herald Student Press Awards in association with
@WeberShandwick return for 2026, once again celebrating the very best emerging journalistic talent from Scotland’s universities and colleges.
Our panel of judges is ready to hear from student journalists, production teams, editors, photographers and digital creators who are pushing boundaries and helping shape the future of Scottish media. Every year, the standard rises, reflecting an energetic, ambitious and highly competitive student press landscape.
In an age when disinformation spreads faster than ever, high‑quality, accountable journalism is essential. That commitment to truth, rigour and public service journalism begins in our higher and further education institutions. The Herald has long believed in the power of student journalism, and we are proud to offer a platform that supports and accelerates the next generation of reporters, storytellers and newsroom leaders.
Catherine Salmond, Editor, said: “It is a pleasure to host these awards and to be able to play a small part in championing the journalists of tomorrow. We have had some brilliant nominees and winners over the years, and I'm incredibly excited to see what talent come our way in 2026.
"Student journalism is where my own career began and was vital to laying the foundations for my career. It is exciting, essential and always worth celebrating."
