Really enjoyed reading this for @guardianreview. Gayford and Hockney are a great double act. Bring on the Spring!

Very sad news about Alison Lurie. Spent time with her in California for a profile years ago and she was as sharp and energising as everyone says. And also very on brand in being both extremely mean and extremely accurate about my clothes.

Interviewing the late Mariss Jansons, and meeting him a few times in the years after, was a real career highlight. Not sure if it's sad or not that he was right about conductors not retiring. RIP. bit.ly/2qcmu8d
Happy 98th birthday to the incomparable Roger Angell, whose through line in baseball astonishes. He watched Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig hit home runs, and he'll likely be blogging this year's playoffs. "...we’re hanging on to this game of ours, knowing how lucky we are.”
