The man who has a pseudo-scientific, entirely arbitrary election prediction method… What went wrong? buff.ly/40VujhD

One thing that is striking about Trump appointments so far (aside from 🦇💩) is number from Senate, Congress & State gov. Even at moment of victory, this doesn’t seem a sign of strength. Rather seems to indicate that Maga-land is pretty thin if you have to raid other branches.

This does not bode well for Transatlantic intelligence sharing. Look forward to all those Conservative MPs who simultaneously supported Trump but are also big fans of 5 eyes network to square the circle.

Given the circumstances, a bit of duck and cover under a desk would perhaps have been legitimate.

He might not appreciate the metaphor, but @andrewcopson has the patience of a Saint in this podcast! As ever, his thoughts are really interesting. share.snipd.com/episode/6ce9…

If Joe wants to mess up Trump’s inauguration he should quit the day before and make Kamala president for 24 hours. All those made in China “45 & 47” hats will be useless.

We’re going to hear lots of stories about which people, policies and rhetoric are to blame for the Democrats’ defeat. Some of those stories may even be true! But an underrated factor is that 2024 was an absolutely horrendous year for incumbents around the world 👇

This timing is… sub-optimal.
Update: The German government coalition has now almost certainly collapsed. No official announcement yet, leaders are still talking in the chancellery, but Finance Min Lindner has urged Scholz to pave the way for snap elections (likely in early March). First reported by Bild.

Fixing the UK’s broken relationship with the EU is even more urgent than before. We must strengthen trade and defence cooperation across Europe to help protect ourselves from the damage Trump will do.

This I think will be the analysis people settle on… Biden should have stood back in 2022 and allowed contested primary.
Replying to @lewis_goodall
The big mistake was the Democrats not moving on Biden more quickly. It deprived the party of an opportunity not to have a primary. They could have chosen a candidate not associated with the administration, or give Harris time to calibrate a better message. That was denied to them. Biden's reputation is going to suffer mightily. There won't be any saccharine "thank you, Joes" again.

Cross posting from the hellsphere, but worth it because, as ever, Susie Dent delivers.

In 2016, Dems funnelled energy into anti-Trump movement. This time I suspect something more like a circular firing squad will occur. There is plenty of blame to go round and if they lose the House, they don’t have an obvious venue for opposing GOP so focus will be on intra-party.
Somehow, some way, the media and the people who run the Democratic Party will figure out how to blame this all on Bernie Bros. That train is always on time.

The Daily Mail guilty of spectacularly mixed metaphors. But it does generate a terrifying AI image when used as a prompt…
