An excellent visit to Inner Farne today to see the history as well as seabirds. Prior Castell’s tower from the 15th century, St Cuthbert’s Chapel with beautiful stained glass window and the bead curtain, curtesy @Nick_OverThere doing a splendid job keeping the birds out.

Strong work @FootballCliches
We are VERY excited because #euro2024 is nearly here. 🏆 And what better way to shoehorn in a connection with Classics, than showing you a Roman discovery in each of the participating countries? THIS WAS NOT MEANT TO HAPPEN! THIS COULD NOT HAPPEN! THIS IS HAPPENING!🧵

Part 12-A: The story that Holy Island was decimated once the Vikings started arriving is being questioned by archaelogical finds showing a level of flourishing at that time. Thanks to @Nick_OverThere from @NTNorthd_Coast for informing me on this.

Not at the Farne Islands unfortunately (or fortunately for the seals) but some very exciting footage of Orcas spotted by fisherman Robert Redpath today, 15 nautical miles from Seahouses. #Orcas #farneislands #Northumberland #BillyShiel

A real pleasure to be at @alnwickcastle last night for the launch of Bill Openshaw’s new book on the Percy Tenantry Volunteers. The pig on the cake a nod to a casualty of the PTV’s wall gun exercises nearby! @mcribbHistory @ZwhiteHistory

#Lindisfarnecastle this morning. Warm & sunny & plenty of seals on view. The Fulmars are back (ignore the pigeons -that's a Fulmars rear end sticking out of a hole in the castle wall & it's mate was circling the Upper Battery.)

Gary Weaver at it again @FootballCliches, after Cardiff’s winner against Reading. Something about defending castles. Absolutely consistent

I was just rummaging around for an archive film link for @SuperWicksy so here’s another classic; Jack Charlton on the Coast. The bit on the island towards the end is great, esp Linda Lisburn’s island accent though (all too rare now). yfanefa.com/record/14971
