I’m going to give you a 19th/20th Century Turkish word that must be considered by all leaders (#prententious, or not): *adamsendecilik* ‘being messed about in a pointless way by someone in authority to the point at which you need help’ - that’s what’s got to stop at every level.

The ECB should just swallow their pride, admit their heinous mistake and beg Sir James Anderson for a favour, preferably on their knees.
Ollie Robinson set to miss the 2nd Test vs NZ this week following scans on his knee England hoping it’s nothing serious and he’ll be right for 3rd Test at Trent Bridge (June 25). Sussex teammate Henry Crocombe called up as cover yesterday espncricinfo.com/story/ollie… #EngvNZ

By striking the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, one of the greatest holy sites of Christianity, Putin has forever put his name on the list of history’s worst barbarians. He should be damned for centuries. And he will lose this war. From the Horde in the 13th century to the Nazis and Bolsheviks in the 20th century, Kyiv’s sacred monasteries have suffered numerous barbarically attacks. Now we are dealing with Russian terrorists who have already outmatched ISIS in their crimes against cultural heritage. Only Russian scum who have nothing sacred can deliberately damage the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a unique UNESCO heritage site under special protection. We will be urgently initiating all relevant procedures within UNESCO and all other international mechanisms, demanding immediate and adequate responses to this state barbarism. We expect strong reactions by international institutions and capitals. No vague words, silence, or weak steps. We need action now to stop Russian barbarism.

Overnight, @RoyalMarines and @NCA_UK officers boarded a Russian shadow fleet tanker, the first operation of its kind led by the UK. I'm incredibly proud of everyone involved who showed great skill, professionalism, and courage. This is another blow to Putin’s war machine.

This was a bit of a mic drop for me. I often find myself explaining Jew-hatred by reference to other minorities. Would you eg. demand Russians or Chinese in NZ make a statement disavowing their homeland before they can have their art exhibited or except to be safe? What Naya says below is right. “I have to move away from Jews and toward another group that has been maligned before the audience can recognize demonization for what it is. There is something deeply pathological about a society in which harm directed at Jews remains invisible until it is reframed through the suffering of someone else.” It is its own kind of debasement.
I have now given numerous talks on antizionism in which I present the Three-Era Framework, a model that situates antizionism as the third historical era of anti-Jewish hostility. Yet, talk after talk, the same question inevitably arises: What about criticism of Israel? The question has become the lightning rod of the entire discussion—a permission slip that many within the Jewish community continue to grant. But the demand to create space for "criticism of Israel" is itself embedded within the structure of antizionism. No other minority group is routinely required to subject itself to criticism in order to appear reasonable, balanced, or intellectually honest. What troubles me most is that even after demonstrating how libels have historically served as some of the strongest predictors of violence against Jews, antizionists—and even some self-described moderates or "demizionists"—continue to insist on making room for "Israel criticism." During these talks, I often switch the example from Jews to another minority group in order to reveal how what is presented as "criticism" is frequently demonization. Suppose, I say, we are discussing homophobia, and I insist that we make space for criticism of gay people. Is claiming that gay people spread AIDS a form of criticism? The audience immediately gasps. They instantly recognize it as a defamatory stereotype rather than legitimate critique. What I find most disturbing is that I must repeatedly make this substitution for people to understand the point. I have to move away from Jews and toward another group that has been maligned before the audience can recognize demonization for what it is. There is something deeply pathological about a society in which harm directed at Jews remains invisible until it is reframed through the suffering of someone else. It is a pattern that extends far beyond contemporary debates. @DavidDeutschOxf recently observed that while antisemitism is historically resonant, civilizations have often shown remarkably little concern when violence is inflicted upon Jews.

Lavrov is half right. Russia does the pulling apart. The West is just the beneficiary.
The Kremlin frames Moldova as a victim of external manipulation.   An unusual argument from a country that spends considerable time trying to influence Moldova’s political choices, information space, and strategic direction.

I am grateful to the UK for taking this important step against Russia’s oil fleet – a shadow fleet tanker has been detained off the UK's southern coast. It was Russia’s hubris, fueled by high oil and gas revenues, that paved the way for this war, and every decision by partners that deprives Russia of money also limits the war itself. I thank @Keir_Starmer and all Britons for such principled resolve. And Europe urgently needs to take legislative steps to enable not only the detention of tankers and restrictions on oil shipments, but also the confiscation of the oil they carry. This will certainly help bring peace closer.
Despite Putin’s best efforts to evade sanctions, we will not let him get away with it.

In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
