You've seen the apex on echo a thousand times. You've never seen it like this.
Exclusive to the #JACC Amara Yad image series, the LV apex’s spiral vortex of muscle fibers converging on a point so thin that light shines right through.

8/🔍 What about radiomic profiling of EAT vs pericoronary fat?
🧐Two (related) depots, two distinct signals:
- FRP-HF (global EAT) → associated with new-onset HF regardless of CAD profile
- FRP-PVAT (pericoronary profile) → associated with CAD-specific events
Proud to join @CaliforniaACC in Sacramento today to advocate for our patients and colleagues regarding #priorauth, unfair #downcoding practices for complex cardiac conditions, outdated cardiac surgery regulations, and CPR/AED education in high schools. @Cardiology@ACCinTouch
People consuming >9 servings/day of ultra-processed foods had a 67% higher risk of #MACE vs ~1 serving/day, per #ACC26 research. Ultra-processed foods include chips, frozen meals, processed meats, sugary drinks, cereals & breads. jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacad…#JACCAdvances#ASCVD#CVD
Walking 7,000 steps a day reduces your risk of death (–47%), cancer death (–37%), heart disease (–25%), dementia (–38%), depression (–22%) and diabetes (–14%).
🫀🚴♂️ Fragmented QRS in elite athletes: always pathological?
A new study in International Journal of Cardiology explored the prevalence and significance of QRS fragmentation (fQRS) in elite male and female cyclists.
🔍 Key findings:
fQRS was common, present in 41% of elite cyclists
Most frequently observed in lead V1
Athletes with fQRS showed greater physiological LV and RV remodelling
Mildly lower RV function was observed, but still within normal limits
No differences in cardiac structure or function based on the number of leads with fQRS
✅ Take-home message:
In isolation, fQRS appears to reflect physiological cardiac adaptation rather than pathology in elite athletes and should not automatically trigger further investigations.
📌 These findings are highly relevant for pre-participation screening and help avoid over-medicalisation in asymptomatic athletes.
