When you're thinking like a scientist, motivated by the search for truth, you maintain a balance between skepticism and open-mindedness.
When you're thinking like an attorney in a courtroom, motivated to confirm a certain narrative, you hop back and forth between extreme skepticism (when information contradicts your narrative) and extreme gullibility (when information supports your narrative).
This is why the extreme skeptics are almost always also extremely gullible. Like Candace Owens in this clip, they'll flatly dismiss the mountain of evidence that the moon landing is real (extreme skepticism) and then turn around and uncritically embrace kooky conspiracy theories about why the moon landing was faked (extreme gullibility).
The "they're all lying to us!" people are the same people who watch one YouTube video about an outlandish theory and come away absolutely positive it's the truth.

What if twitter/x didn’t allow for anonymity? It would make the app much more like “the public square,” where no one could spew hurtful things or lies without consequences. Maybe that’s how this platform is disrupted.
