Totally worth the 10,000 hours to build this graphics engine

Over the past few years I’ve been building up a set of principles to understand the world by: to create an intuition of what the best thing to do is in isolation from what everyone around you thinks. I’m gonna start sharing some of these to hopefully help others

AI will change how hardware gets designed. But first, someone has to fix the software hardware engineers use every day. You can’t build great AI on top of a foundation that was never designed for it. We’re not building a CAD plugin. We’re rebuilding the entire CAD stack—from geometry kernels to user interfaces—so both humans and AI can design dramatically faster. That’s the hard part. That’s what we’re doing at Aurorin. If this is something you want to spend your life building, come do it with us. aurorincad.com/careers/found…

You should be able to talk to your CAD software. In Aurorin you can just write down what you’re thinking and work with it to design your parts.  All the major CAD tools are slow and require lots of tedious work to use. They still use kernels from the 80s. We’re making Aurorin with a brand new CAD kernel for much faster performance and an AI native interface.

This is exactly what we’re doing
if CAD software was easier and quicker, i would have built 10x more hardware instead of loading a model tree and crashing my PC 10 times a day

Obviously it’s not perfect yet but we’re rapidly iterating from user feedback to add the most critical features first. That means expanding our kernel, adding more UI tools and of course expanding the capabilities of our AI agent to let engineers move more and more to a higher level of abstraction. I’ve already shown people demos where we can have the agent make a part in under 10 minutes that took them 8 hours to make in something like Onshape. So please keep giving any feedback. That’s the most valuable thing: no matter how critical it is

Aurorin’s custom kernel loads huge files in seconds instead of hours in Parasolid. It’s interesting how people don’t understand that making your own CAD kernel means you don’t have to license Parasolid. So many of the major CAD tools (Solidworks, Onshape etc) do this and so are limited by the slow performance of this kernel built in the 1980s.

What's interesting about Aurorin is that instead of building an AI chat plugin for existing CAD software, they're building new CAD software from scratch. This would have been impossible before AI coding got good, because Solidworks is 10M lines of code. But it is now plausible for a small team to just rebuild it.
Aurorin is building new professional CAD Software from the ground up to be extremely fast and AI native. A part that takes an experienced SolidWorks user 20 minutes to make only takes seconds in @AurorinCAD. aurorincad.com Congrats on the launch @NominalAviator! ycombinator.com/launches/PWy…

Somebody seems to be rooting against us. You know, what great words of encouragement. It’s crazy a single person made so much progress making a new kernel in under 2 months!
