Proud to finally present this banger! We found synchrotron radiation from two extreme, near-Sun shocks! With @NASA's PSP, we directly measured the relativistic electrons and shock conditions under which such radiation is generated. iopscience.iop.org/article/1… 1/5

If we suppress all discussion, all criticism, proclaiming "This is the answer, my friends; man is saved!" we will doom humanity for a long time to the chains of authority, confined to the limits of our present imagination. It has been done so many times before.

In Beyond Words: How Animals Think and Feel [well researched and cited—highly recommend] ecologist Carlo Safina speculates that the lack of orca and wolf attacks on humans are bc they recognize us as social and vengeful creatures like them, whose relatives would seek revenge
I honestly believe this is one of the biggest mysteries there is, Orcas are the most efficient predators on earth, yet they have never attacked us in the wild. They know something we don’t.

In our new paper, we propose a new "time-of-flight" instability which addresses the limitations of beam-plasma interactions in homogeneous plasma which plagued the Ginzburg-Zheleznyakov model. arxiv.org/pdf/2507.08437 Also, it has the best looking type III spectrogram ever.

Large-scale disturbances (aka, coronal waves) during the filament eruption (and X1.1 flare) reported earlier. I know this kind of video is favored by some people, although its scientific value is TBD. This video at least tells us the disturbances were limited to the limb area.

A lens can perform the Fourier transform! 🔍 This is the 4F system: the first lens converts an image into its frequency components, and the second lens reconstructs it. By adding an aperture at the Fourier plane, we can filter out high frequencies. #Optics #Physics #b3d

In this paper, Ling Chen and colleagues have done excellent work on further exploring the properties of F-H emissions that we discovered in iopscience.iop.org/article/1…

Thrilled our research on electron acceleration is out in @NatureComms! We show how a multiscale process accelerates electrons to very high energies, revealing how shocks act as natural accelerators across the Universe. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… #heliophysics #space #research

May perhaps be NASA's last great exploratory mission for a long time.

What a trip! I visited some long term collaborators and made new collaborations in my recent trip to the US! I gave 6 talks over a period of three weeks. A special thanks to @AstroKoulou @LynntheBruce @CenterForAstro and everyone at APL who I can’t seem to find on here.

Additionally, I also had a nice time seeing my academic great-grandfather Roald Sagdeev, my academic mentor Volodya, and friends and colleagues and former mentors, Jens, @jmagdalenic and Misha Balikhin - all in the same place at AGU!
