Inside Stonework: A Q&A With Our Featured Poets scarlettigerpress.com/blog/i…
What inspired your poem for Stonework?
'Coal Mine Canary Requiems', p. 24
My poem is an ekphrastic response to ‘Canary resuscitator’, an aluminium animal air tester, as used by rescue parties in mines.
Dream Animal (ca. 1903) by Alfred Kubin. Today is the anniversary of his death. According to a 2012 exhibition, “By the early 1900s, just after Freud released The Interpretation of Dreams (1899), Kubin was producing hundreds of drawings exploring the abysses of the unconscious.”
'But this stone, this stone against my skin,
Even there right down within,
The sub atomic resonance of its particulate exchange,
In the obdurate love that makes it what it is,
There is vibration there below
That my cooling body seems yet to know.'
@ProffJon
'And with the eschaton of closing time
they say a great gleam of softest light will fall.
And our children's faceless children
will form a circle around us, holding hands.
And they will watch us all, opaque-eyed,
sinking together, one by one, bubbling down.'

I am reminded that 201 years ago yesterday, 16 July 1824, Lord Byron was buried within his family vault.
I felt proud to have honoured Byron on the bicentenary of his death last year with 'O Light! She Was the Universe', published by @GothicKeatsgothickeatspress.com/byron-c…
