This spectacular old pōhutukawa in a Takapuna backyard is not protected in any way. The owner loves it but any new owner could cut it down.
New ‘built environment’ laws going through parliament, do nothing about this massive gap in mature tree protection.

It is not Urban forests that are creating a Birdlife boom..... it's the control of predators that does. What a bizzare conclusion.
It also misrepresents the huge value that exotic trees play in providing food and habitat.
