Glad we were able to bring this to light and the publicity was too much for the miner who quit the permit. Agree that an exploration permit should have never been issued in the world heritage area.

Good news: “West Coast mine application on #UNESCO heritage site withdrawn”. Never, ever, should mining be in globally recognised conservation area. If it did, #NZ could well lose that status for the affected area. And conservationists shouldn’t be abused: rnz.co.nz/news/political/593…

Imagine the son-in-law of the US President presenting a ‘vision and plan’ for a shiny city with resorts on the ruins of Auschwitz or Theresienstatd where dozens of my mother’s family and tens of thousands of others were slaughtered. And from which he will personally benefit. Repulsive, inhuman & rapacious doesn’t even begin to describe what they are proposing

Most of the big mining companies are Aussie - including Taranaki seabed miner TTR - set to take the lions share of value and leave us with the acid mine drainage, cyanide laden tailings dams, destroyed seabed and extinct wildlife. We can’t mine our way to a liveable planet.
