I don't know who they think they're fooling, but this cough syrup does not taste like blackberries and vanilla. Not even close.

Query: if a regional council doesn't consider climate change when granting resource consent, do those of us living outside their region have to bail them out when the obvious consequences occur?

Went to the movies today and saw the Royal Opera's Carmen, and the lead was absolutely incredible. Her name's Aigul Akhmetshina. Just outstanding. What a great show! I'm so glad they film them now, so that people living outside places like London and New York can see them too.

I was also lucky enough to win the Sir Julius Vogel award for best collection for "You Are My Sunshine and Other Stories," published by @StelliformPress. Happily, I tied in this category with @leemurraywriter for her book "Remains to Be Told". Congratulations, Lee!

Abstract acceptance, yay! For a last minute replacement chapter, so I better get on with writing it.

We're still at $188/month, just $12 shy of our peak level of funding back in fall of 2022. I still hate fundraising. And we can survive at this rate. So maybe I'll quit bothering you about this. Incredibly grateful to those of you who signed on even at $2 or $3/month. Thank you!
Support for Reckoning has flagged a bit since our 2022 fundraiser. We don't want to roll back payrates--we want to pay more, so more marginalized folks can have room to write about environmental justice and teach us how to be better! Plz help if you can? reckoning.press/one-more-cal…

Feeding the neighbour's cat while he's in hospital. I brought over a toy mouse for moggie today, and it was roundly ignored in favour of chewing on string. To be fair, kitty still hasn't grasped the cat door so she's not the brightest. (It has to be propped open for her.)

Good evening @actparty and @dbseymour. I'm wondering, please, if I can possibly get an answer as to whether taxpayer money will go to teaching intelligent design in charter school science classes?

I've read this - got an early copy, lucky me - and it's amazing! The end gave me shivers...

Hi @dbseymour and @actparty. I asked this yesterday, but I understand you're very busy and may have missed it. I think it's important, though, so can you tell me, please, regarding charter schools, if any taxpayer money will go to teaching intelligent design in science classes?

Hi @dbseymour and @actparty. I saw a news article today about Brian Tamaki wanting a charter school for Destiny Church, so I thought I'd ask again, please: will any taxpayer money go to teaching intelligent design in science classes? Thank you.

I got an abstract acceptance today for a conference later in the year on science fiction from the 1990s. How many of you here in NZ remember Typhon's People? Because that's what I'll be speaking on... should be fun!

If there's a creepier seastar novelette out there, I want to read it. Please consider that a challenge! If it doesn't exist, write it yourself, because I want more creepy sea creature stories.
