Nationally-accredited #MedEd for physicians, hosting Annual Primary Care Update with OU College of Medicine connecting community docs to academia since 1997
ALT Many non‐URM academic administrators, faculty, and
learners in medicine do not recognize nor understand the
challenges facing URM matriculating through medical school,
residency, and as a faculty member.
ALT There is a lack of concordance when it comes to classifying patient Fitzpatrick Skin Types amongst providers, trainees, and patient self-reporting. This lack of agreement can influence clinical practice and management.
ALT Despite skin of color patients comprising approximately 40% of the U.S. population, gaps exist in how to classify the myriad of skin tones and hues of these patients. This presentation will address advantages and disadvantages of the currently available systems and allow the learner to think about the development of new systems.
ALT Many healthcare professionals and others still view the value of a person base on skin color. By the end of this presentation, those
attending will gain better appreciation and the beauty of the infinite blends of color tones that overlap racial identities and cultures.
ALT Many health care professionals are unaware of the disparities that exist which negate the attainment of the highest level of health for all people.
ALT Health care providers may be unaware of the clinical
integration of pattern of cutaneous lupus with interpretation of
autoimmune serologic studies to determine differential risk of
systemic lupus.
