ALT UC Irvine undergraduate Earth System Science major Chloe Selby talks about navigating life as an anteater. LVWJ: What's a favorite memory of yours from your time at UCI Physical Sciences? CS: A favorite memory during my time at UCI Physical Sciences has been working as a Peer Academic Advisor and helping incoming undergraduate students figure out their class schedules. I’m very organized and I love putting together schedules, so advising these students and sharing my tips has been very fulfilling. Another favorite has been working in a research lab and analyzing sea-floor sediment samples with paleoceanography expert Dr. Patrick Rafter. We are interested in determining the water quality and historic conditions of the ocean by carbon dating microscopic forams sampled from across the world.

Mystery! Still looking for a better shot, but does anyone know what these green orbs are? We saw them on a few dives, mostly at 200 - 500 m depths, off the OR coast and at Axial Seamount. At first I thought they were clogged larvacean houses, but they're all perfectly circular.

People often answer this with "dress timeless," but I don't think that's really the answer. A lot of guys bought tweed sport coats and oxford shoes 15 years ago and are now in totally different clothes because those styles were ultimately not them. 🧵

When those of us who work on CO₂ removal (CDR) meet, it’s apparent that no one wants to do this and no one thinks it’s easy.
It’s far easier and cheaper to stop emitting CO₂.
The fact that some of the smartest people I know decide to work on CDR signals our desperation.
