Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, whose presidential mandate constitutionally expired on 15 May 2026, bears full responsibility for today’s violent attack on our consultative meeting, which brought together more than 70 traditional elders led by Ugaas Abdirizak, Ugaas Abdullahi, Ugaas Hashi, alongside Members of Parliament, opposition representatives, youth leaders, and civil society activists.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the swift recovery of the injured.
This attack is a grave assault on the constitutional rights of Somali citizens and a deliberate attempt to suppress peaceful assembly. It occurred as we were preparing for the Peace Assembly scheduled for tomorrow, June 4, following months of reconciliation dialogue with all stakeholders.
Somalia’s future must be built on dialogue, consensus, and constitutional order — not force and repression. Those responsible will be held accountable.
