Truth be told Somalia’s diplomatic efforts are suffering because positions are being filled based on political connections rather than actual expertise. Seasoned career diplomats are being pushed aside, while critical embassies are handed to politicians with no diplomatic background. Under former President @HassanSMohamud , Somalia’s foreign policy lost its footing. What we’re witnessing in Israel today didn’t happen in a vacuum it traces back to the missteps of his administration. He failed in domestic politics, proved unable to unite the country, and has instead resorted to chest-thumping attacks on the opposition while undermining the Federal Member States. #israel #IsraelEnemyOfHumanity

Somalia’s diplomacy is being undermined by political appointments over merit. Career diplomats are sidelined while key embassies are led by politicians, a university rector, and even a junior civil servant with no diplomatic experience including the mission to Russia. #Israel

The outgoing @TC_MogadisuBE Ambassador did a massive disservice to the strong, historic bond between Somalia and Türkiye. During his time in office, his focus shifted away from building diplomacy and straight into meddling in Somalia's internal politics. He became deeply entangled in domestic affairs, where Turkish-supplied weapons were allegedly turned against Somali civilians. Worse still, these actions were allegedly used for political gain, with serious allegations emerging that for every single air strike, he personally pocketed money from the failed regime of Hassan Sheikh. To @MFATurkiye: there must be absolute accountability for these actions, which severely undermined the trust, partnership, and deep goodwill between our two nations. A strong, lasting relationship between Somalia and Türkiye can only survive on a foundation of transparency, mutual respect, and strict non-interference. @HakanFidan

What surprises me is how deeply Turkey 🇹🇷 is involved in Somalia’s internal politics. Pro-Turkey and pro-Hassan Sheikh accounts are quick to accuse opposition leaders and ex-presidents of being aligned with UAE 🇦🇪 and Israel 🇮🇱 even though @HassanSMohamud himself had close ties with the UAE and his officials worked directly with them. The opposition is simply asking for free and fair elections. Somalia belongs to its people, not one man. Time for real accountability . #Somalia

Turkish intelligence officials are in Mogadishu, yet the discussion appears to extend beyond partnership and foreign policy into Somalia’s internal political affairs. At the same time, pro-Turkey social media accounts continue to label Somali opposition leaders as agents of Dubai or Israel. This raises important questions: What is Turkey’s interest in Somalia’s domestic politics? And why is Ankara seemingly so invested in defending former President @HassanSMohamud ?

Monrovia, Freetown, Kigali, Bujumbura, and Luanda were all scarred by civil war in 1990s Today they are rebuilding, attracting investment, and moving forward. Mogadishu is still struggling with many of the same problems 35 years later. The question is who cursed Mogadishu?

Former president Hassan Sheikh must cease his violent actions against opposition leaders and the public. His legal term is up. We need to proceed to elections based on consensus immediately. I urge the Somali people to remain strong & security forces to protect our citizens. 1/3

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, whose presidential mandate constitutionally expired on 15 May 2026, bears full responsibility for today’s violent attack on our consultative meeting, which brought together more than 70 traditional elders led by Ugaas Abdirizak, Ugaas Abdullahi, Ugaas Hashi, alongside Members of Parliament, opposition representatives, youth leaders, and civil society activists. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the swift recovery of the injured. This attack is a grave assault on the constitutional rights of Somali citizens and a deliberate attempt to suppress peaceful assembly. It occurred as we were preparing for the Peace Assembly scheduled for tomorrow, June 4, following months of reconciliation dialogue with all stakeholders. Somalia’s future must be built on dialogue, consensus, and constitutional order — not force and repression. Those responsible will be held accountable.

With a major demonstration scheduled in Mogadishu tomorrow, expect the Turkish propaganda machine to intensify its attacks on the opposition leaders. Expect F-16 fighter jets to be seen flying over the demonstrators. Finally, expect announcements related to oil drilling to suddenly appear on the official pages of the Turkish government.
