Kudos to @LeeBisset for a searing portrayal of Brünnhilde in Götterdämmerung at @lfotweet yesterday. In a dark, male-dominated opera, Bisset's passionately sung performance was a gleaming symbol of fierce intelligence and female agency.

On Benjamin Britten’s 50th birthday, William Walton wrote: ‘Your music shines out as a beacon in a chaotic and barren musical world.’
Britten also wrote about Walton’s influence: ‘I’d got in a muddle… you showed me the way of being relaxed and fresh and intensely personal.’
