I quit practicing law.
The most common response is complete jealousy and awe.
Followed up with questions about how a shift out of practicing might be possible for them also.
Followed by every way the profession is toxic.
My response: It’s never too late to follow a dream.
My girlfriend is back! She was literally just travelling for 2 weeks but it felt like 4 months and the world is finally right again. It was absolutely wrong without her here.
I have a friend who wants to meet for coffee for a few hours on Saturday because it’s going to be too hot to be outside and we won’t go out drinking or stay up late and that’s exactly the friendship I need in my life.
I work in operations now. Fuck yes. Thank you thank you.
But imagine just like someone not showing up for an interview THEY scheduled with you through calendly. Imagine. Imagine that.
Leaving law was a necessary change for me. I have celiac disease ™️ and although I am sick less often without gluten, when I am sick, or glutened, I’m destroyed by it.
I was in bed all long weekend. And guess what. No repercussions to my job. Because it was a weekend.
You do a bad job at empathy if you throw your hands up and say “that’s not my life so I don’t understand” or by being afraid to try because you carry too much privilege.
I’ll give you an example.
🧵
I have friends who do not understand what it is to be gay.
What they can understand: hurtful words, bullying, exclusion, a fear for your safety, a desire to belong, the pain of judgment from family, hiding part of yourself, hiding your love, etc.
If you seek to deeply understand you can usually find a position of empathy and imagine then the magnitude.
All of those pieces. Every day. Years.
Overwhelming right. Exactly.
My girlfriend is traveling with family. It’s the longest we’ve been apart since we started dating.
I knew, but did not have proof until now, that she enhances every aspect of my life. Even things she does not touch. Her engagement and love radiate.
She is a gift. I miss her.
