Just finalised the last of the planning and logistics for next years US chase season, so the countdown is officially on. Of course we still have the summer storm/TC season ahead of us here but my mind is always looking ahead to the annual US plains shenanigans 🌪️

Got lucky yesterday north of Yuma, CO. With mostly northerly storm motion, we chose to keep to the west of the storms as viz was good and new robust updrafts were forming. Even so we were very surprised to see this tornado develop as radar showed little rotation in this region

#OTD 10 years ago I witnessed my #1 tornado of all time near Chapman, KS. Documented this tornado for 90 minutes from start to finish across its 16 mile path with multiple close range intercepts and a singular tornado taking on about every shape and size possible. I’m not sure this tornado ever will ever be topped from its benchmark. I’ll remember this chase for the rest of my life.

So jealous of anyone there. I'd been photographing clouds since I was a kid a shot my first 🌪️ in 2009 but Wray and Dodge City were the days I started actively following storm chasers on Twitter (different account at the time).

Apparently it's been 10 years since the Dodge City dual meso monster was throwing down tornadoes like it was the Oprah show!
Thankfully that's been just long enough for me to learn how to photograph them properly 🙄😂
