Far leftist rejects the rule of law. Well there's a surprise.
Mr Justice Jeremy Johnson and others of his ilk in the judiciary would do well to remember that Nazi judges were tried and convicted at Nuremberg for their complicity in genocide. And as MLK said, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

Oxford is a ridiculous place for many reasons, not least in that you can be stood on the station platform next to a Prince of the Universal Church eating a Gregg’s sausage roll

So much for the rule of law Zack.
Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.

I'm puzzled by the Dundee knife/axe case, about which, to be clear, I have no strong views one way or the other. But I do have a question that I don't find addressed anywhere. Why was a 12 year old girl walking around the streets of Dundee with a knife and an axe?

You can argue about length of sentences. what about this, what about that...but if while you are resisting arrest you break a police officer's spine with a sledge hammer, you can expect prison. To be a martyr for a cause you do have to suffer some inconvenience.

A very interesting ET ruling.

When I saw the poster for the Tommy Robinson, Rees-Mogg etc debate at the Ox Union I genuinely thought it was a hoax until someone pointed out to me that it was real. What strange times.

So now if you google Scottish government £400,000 this will come up instead. It's not exactly Machiavellian levels of sophistication is it?
BREAKING: The Scottish Government has made a £400,000 donation to a Scottish football fan who is walking 3000 miles across the United States Craig Ferguson aims to make it to Boston ahead of Scotland's first game in the World Cup and raise £1 million for a mental health charity

Hello all. A quick update from me. My sex screen assay is progressing well. I promised rapid: I can detect SRY from a cheek swab in about 30 minutes. I am currently testing whether I can drop it to 10 minutes without compromising reliability. I promised cheap: The current cost per assay is about £2. I am currently testing whether I can drop this to below the pound line, and it’s very promising. I promised accessible: The assay could be run by any grassroots sports coach, school nurse, and my Mum. I promised on-site: This is where my lab efforts are currently focussed. I’ve always held “from the UK to Uganda” as a principle, and ensuring easy deployment is crucial. I’m currently learning a lot of materials science… The other main push is setting up various blinded, larger-scale tests. This will require lots of form filling. If anyone wants to help me hit my final budget target, my crowdfunder is here.
Every girl deserves a fair chance in sports. Developing a rapid, low-cost sex screening method can protect women’s categories and promote equality. Your support can make this vision a reality. Please share and consider donating to help fund this crucial research! gofund.me/632105634

Amongst other things it tells us that Finland shares a border with Russia, Finland was a Russian Imperial possession & having to keep your nose clean or else Moscow won't be happy is within living memory.
The many takes flying around about John Healey, resignation gossip and national security spending miss a fundamental point. In Finland, where people have a strong social safety net and a real sense of shared national purpose, around 80% say they would be prepared to defend their country. In the UK, that figure is closer to 30%. That should tell us something. Until we change the financial architecture of our economy and bring the essentials of life out of the grip of corporate extraction and into public ownership, we will always be told to choose between bombs and butter. But the reality is we need both. Modern hybrid warfare means every public service is part of our national resilience. Energy, water, housing, health, transport, food security and social care are not separate from defence. They are defence. If we want people to defend the country, we have to build a country people believe is worth defending. A thriving state. A fair economy. A society where everyone feels they have a stake. I spoke about this on Peston on Monday night.

To get mildly technical Ashley, llamas don't have a right to dignity & respect. But there are reasons to grant them equal consideration for similar interests.
Come back to me in 10 minutes, when I've decided whether I'm laughing or crying. Her views on being a llama may have changed in the last 10 years. But she was 43 when she wrote that. With thanks to @EmmJayYardley for sharing this with the class.

Quite. And if the prime minister was actually serious about defence and the Treasury was still unwilling to do what the prime minister asked it to do then the prime minister should have sacked the chancellor. Weak, weak, weak.
Cannot be stressed enough that the amount Starmer was trying and failing to find for defence was much less than the amount originally agreed, which in turn was much less than the amount that we actually need to have a serious military.

Obviously this is either a parody account or the man is a dangerous lunatic.
I want people finally held to account for what has been done to our country. Civil servants, judges, politicians. If they have knowingly placed unvetted dangerous third world savages in our communities, near our children, then a Restore Britain Government will aim to prosecute them. If that includes Reform’s Robert Jenrick and Suella Braverman, then so be it. When they held the power - they welcomed that Sudanese monster into our country and handed him a visa. An attempted beheading followed their decision. Those responsible must be held to account. And I want to send a very clear message to officials planning to place more of these men in communities across Britain - near schools, nurseries, families. When Restore Britain wins the next election, we will pursue you with the full power of the state. That will apply retrospectively. If those in power are made to feel the consequences of their decisions, the quality of those decisions will improve. We are so far past half-measures now, the country is too far gone. Britain needs a democratic revolution. That is exactly what Restore Britain is going to do.

Just seen someone over in the other place invoke the "inherent violence of the state" as a justification for random people interfering with public lectures by people they don't like. Takes me right back to the 70s. They'll be quoting Althusser next.

Let's list the arguments I've seen: it wasn't a proper lecture; nobody was there; only 5 were there; it was a book promotion; he's a TERF, he's a Catholic, he's an associate of some obscure Harvard Professor; it doesn't matter; it does matter; it's a grift; he was paid to do it;

2) Employers should not collude with students or staff to enable such abridgment. There are people with Chairs on here who pretend these simple principles are either outrageous or incomprehensible.

It's a damning indictment of UK Universities in 2026. I don't know how we got here, but unless we get a grip, the future looks grim.
