📚Education is a constitutional right under Article 25-A, yet for millions of families, going to school is anything but free. Transport🚗, uniforms👩🏻‍🏫, stationery🎒, meals🥪 and exam fees📝 place a heavy burden on households already struggling to make ends meet.

When families are forced to choose between basic survival and a girl's education, education becomes the first sacrifice. This affordability gap is one of the reasons why 13.4 million girls in Pakistan remain out of school‼

#EducationFinancing is not only about what governments spend—it's also about reducing the costs families bear. A budget that truly prioritises #GirlsEducation must not leave families to shoulder the burden alone. #FundHerFuture #InvestInGirlsEducation #Article25A

The cost of excluding girls from education isn't just moral, it's economic. To the tune of $15–30 trillion in lost lifetime earnings, according to the World Bank. When education budgets shrink, girls leave school first. And as Devex highlights, they are less likely to return. That lost potential doesn't stay contained. It ripples across families, health systems, and entire economies, for generations.

Underfunding is one of the biggest barriers to education girls in Pakistan face today. Leaders like Zehra Arshad and the Pakistan Coalition for Education @PCESAQE understand this deeply—because they’re working on it, in real time, within their communities. At Malala Fund, a core part of our work is backing community-led efforts that both name the problem AND know how to solve it. Because when we resource the people closest to the issue, we unlock the kind of systemic change that reshapes what’s possible for girls and, ultimately, for all of us.
