June 12 update:
Arctic sea ice extent has fallen to a new daily record low in the NSIDC record.
2026: 10.620 million km²
Previous June 12 record: 10.767 million km² (2016)
That’s a new record by about 147,000 km². The long-term decline is hard to miss.
🧊📉Certain circles have been blabbing on about alleged “record cold” in the Arctic; however, the sea ice data tells a VERY DIFFERENT story.
NSIDC Arctic sea ice extent plummeted to a new daily record low extent for June 11:
2026: 10.759 million km²
Old record: 10.778 million km² in 2016
