Soil is continuing to slough off into the sinkhole near a pier supporting an elevated section of Interstate 44 in downtown St. Louis. The interstate has been shut down in both directions. Full story at @stltoday. #STLtraffic

Interstate 70 will be closed in both directions soon to the pier supporting part of the highway can be inspected after a large sinkhole from busted water mains (plural) washed out the soil around the pier. Go to @stltoday for the story.

Minchillo, a professional through and through, got up and continued working, chronicling the violence and chaos. The AP photographer Minchillo is a true American hero of that awful day. Incredible work by the meteorologists at National Weather Service St. Louis. This is likely the most detailed tornado damage survey ever conducted. The tornado’s width was expanded to 1.8 miles wide, making it the 8th widest tornado on record. Its rating remains a mid-range EF3 with estimated peak winds of 152 mph.
