Carceral State: Institutions of confinement, punishment, surveillance held up by the state. Used to regulate and control the public through fear. Community Resilience: The ability for a community (city, neighborhood, association, etc) to respond to various hardships and improve collective conditions. Crime: An act punishable by law. Might or might not cause harm. Gatekeeping: Controlling or limiting access to a resource, sometimes based on level of need or other status. Gatekeepers are the individuals who have authority over that resource

Mutual Aid: A method of community organizing based on individuals voluntarily and directly meeting each others' needs. Decentralized networks spread across neighborhoods to address issues without intervention or regulation. Recognizes that reacting to systemic oppression on an issue-by-issue, institutional basis does not strengthen communities or change the conditions we live in.
