To improve the capacity of individuals & communities to realise their right to health and health care, & to advocate for a Primary Health Care approach. PHM-SA
Community members brainstormed solutions for SA to this CC and health crisis, including increasing community gardens, more composting and more education. “Local activists are needed!”
Funeka Menze, community health worker: In the past 20 years, we have seen these floods increase, and the winters become colder. More people need fires to keep warm. We used to be able to walk across the village in the summer, but now we are seeing more mosquitoes due to CC.
Doctor @LouisGeorgeVonB Reynolds: We need to move the practice of health out of the hospitals and into the communities for multiple reasons…We’ve seen that when there’s a flood, access to healthcare is cut off.
Prof James Irlam: We've recently seen Hanta virus and Ebola. The resurgence of both is rooted in changes to the ecosystem.
We aren't trying to frighten people, but to empower all for action!
Prof James Irlam: The Lancet declared CC is the greatest threat to health in the 21st century. How can we make this an opportunity for public health? We need to change our energy systems. We need to change our dependence on coal-powered stations.
