1. **🔍 ИИ на службе безопасности.** Уязвимость в протоколе zcash:native была обнаружена с помощью нейросетей (модель Opus). Раньше человеческого ресурса не хватало, чтобы смоделировать такие сложные сценарии «двойной траты».
2. **🛡 Спецоперация «Хардфорк».** Команда провела беспрецедентную по скрытности операцию: заранее договорились с 12 майнинг-пулами, заморозили транзакции пула Orchard и обновили сеть за 6 часов, чтобы хакеры не успели воспользоваться багом.
3. **📉 Был ли взлом?** Прямых доказательств эксплуатации уязвимости нет. «Турникеты» (счетчики монет на входе и выходе из пулов) не зафиксировали аномального оттока средств.
4. **🔄 Обновление Ironwood.** Готовится внеплановый переход на новый пул Orchard. Это будет финальная проверка: если всем холдерам хватит монет при переходе, значит, «печатный станок» хакеров не работал.

«Ровно в 10 утра по восточному времени в прошлую субботу мне поступил звонок в Signal от Дайры-Эммы, главы отдела исследований и разработки протокола в ZODL. Была обнаружена проблема, и меня необходимо было ввести в курс дела.
Пятнадцать минут спустя, уже переместившись в безопасное место, я подключился к видеозвонку с Дайрой-Эммой, Nuttycombe и Str4d. Они сообщили мне о проблеме, которая в итоге привела к устранению уязвимости в Orchard и к быстрой координации самого значимого сетевого обновления в истории Zcash.

Я наткнулся на тред Дойча всего за несколько минут до звонка от Дайры-Эммы. Тогда я ещё не знал, что уже через несколько минут нам придётся преодолевать ограничения времени, безопасности, географии и техники, чтобы подавить риск эксплуатации уязвимости.
Тейлор, исследователь безопасности, раскрыл уязвимость ограниченной группе наших ключевых инженеров с глубокой криптографической экспертизой. К моменту, когда следующим утром мне поступил звонок, исправление уже было готово, а план заключался в двухэтапном процессе: сначала скоординировать софтфорк, который исключит транзакции Orchard из блоков.
Этот форк сразу снижал риск эксплуатации уязвимости, не раскрывая полного масштаба проблемы до ответственного раскрытия информации. Сразу после софтфорка мы должны были скоординировать уже хардфорк, чтобы устранить основную проблему и снова включить транзакции Orchard.
Мы вчетвером согласились с этим планом и определили сроки так, чтобы свести перебои к минимуму. Целью был софтфорк вечером в понедельник по времени США, чтобы большинство пользователей сети проснулись утром уже с решённой проблемой. Всё прошло не совсем так, но довольно близко к этому.
31-го числа мы ввели Pacu в курс характера проблемы, но не самой уязвимости, чтобы он помог с координацией как можно большей части экосистемы. Поскольку исправление затрагивало zebrad от Zcash Foundation, на следующий день мы ввели в курс Pili, которая на тот момент возглавляла ZEC engineering, а также инженера ZF Арию. Позднее, непосредственно перед публикацией сообщений о софтфорке, мы также ввели в курс Peacemonger и Neal из ZODL.
За несколько предыдущих недель я общался с руководителями пары майнинг-пулов на разных мероприятиях, и это оказалось очень кстати. Контакты были свежими. Мы планировали отправить готовые бинарные файлы, но даже при наличии этих отношений пулы, а позднее и биржи, хотели самостоятельно изучить код и скомпилировать его у себя.
После длинных переписок, а в некоторых случаях и видеовстреч, чтобы доказать, что я не был скомпрометирован, мы решили, что готовы к софтфорку в понедельник в 20:00 по восточному времени, когда пулы должны были применить патч. Оказалось, что этого времени было слишком мало.
План исходил из предположения, что все будут готовы и что при развёртывании не возникнет никаких проблем. Только после 2:00 ночи по восточному времени, утром 2-го числа, и после довольно тревожной для меня реорганизации цепи на 25 блоков, мы подтвердили, что софтфорк стал победившей цепью. Как только мы поняли, что победили, мы сразу опубликовали объявление.
Сразу после софтфорка мы согласились, что двухчасовое окно между распространением кода и активацией было слишком коротким, даже при том, что майнинг-пулы работали с нами напрямую и в реальном времени. Мы расширили окно для хардфорка и отдельно сообщили операторам узлов, чего им ожидать. Позднее, по просьбе одного из пулов, мы согласились продлить это окно ещё раз. ⤵️
