āš ļøšŸ¦ This poor grey wagtail was rescued after becoming stuck on a glue trap, losing its tail feathers and many others in the struggle to escape. Our vets are carefully removing the sticky residue as it begins its recovery. A reminder of the danger glue traps pose to wildlife.šŸ’š

Sadi Carnot was born 230 years ago today. In 1824, while studying steam engines, he discovered a limit that no technology can overcome: No engine can convert all heat into useful work. This insight became the foundation of thermodynamics and understanding of energy. Carnot died in 1832 at just 36 years old.

On this day in 1794 the French Republic guillotined Antoine Lavoisier. He had named oxygen, formulated the law of conservation of mass and founded modern chemistry. Appeals were rejected with the line "the Republic has no need of scientists." The next day Lagrange said: "It took only a moment to cause this head to fall, and a hundred years will not suffice to produce its like."

Days and weeks of intense debate, scrutiny and condemnation - much of it justified - of Starmer accepting £18,485 worth of clothes and spectacles. The value was 1/271th of Farage's £5,000,000 from a Thai-based crypto tycoon yet the Reform UK wannabe PM's largely received a free pass. That's wrong.
Nigel Farage is facing questions over a £5m gift he received from a billionaire backer before he became an MP @vicderbyshire runs through the timeline #Newsnight

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: ā€œIt is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. ā€œThere are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. ā€œIf, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the ā€˜medicine closet’ and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That’s why you should always have a nutrition choice! ā€œThose who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity.ā€

President Trump has posted this picture on social media of himself as Christ healing the sick. I’ve long given up saying how hard it is to think of any previous US president who behaved like Donald Trump, but comparing himself to Jesus puts him on another level altogether.

🚨BREAKING The Knights Templar Order and its ruling Council demand that this offensive and blasphemous image be removed forthwith ! We supported President Trump in 2016 and 2024 (NY Times attributed our support in 2016 to be part of his victory) However we are deeply offended by this and have no other choice but to condemn it wholeheartedly and ask for a public apology to the Christian brethren who have been deeply upset by this depiction. We respectfully remend President Trump of the Bible Scripture found in Galatians 6:7 "God will not be mocked"

Richard Tice demanded Angela Rayner quit over £40,000. Will he over £120,000?
The deputy leader of Reform UK, Richard Tice, owns a property company - Quidnet REIT. From 2020 to 2022 it paid Tice and his trust £600k in dividends. Quidnet should have paid £120k of tax on those dividends. It didn't. A 🧵 with evidence from the company's own filings:
