Sunday February 1st, 2026: We were able to catch some of the flurries here at the office, around 4:45am this morning. ❄️ Temperatures today will only warm into the 40s and 50s. Tonight the lows are back in the 20s and 30s. Stay warm out there. 🧥

Day 13 no light. The mosquitoes & I have forged a non aggression pact in exchange for my left arm. The fridge hums sea shanties, although it is not on. It beckons me to open it - but I will not be tricked. These are the days of our lives, but they are neither bold nor beautiful.

Just learned about a local San Diegan that used AI to sue a real estate company and won. The settlement was $20M - Guy builds machine learning program to scan building-permit records - He finds that Invitation Homes did a TON of unpermitted work (no permit fees to cities = damages) - Files a Qui Tam Lawsuit against them. (whistleblower lawsuit that allows any private citizen to file against any parties that defraud the government and get 50% of damages) - Invitation Homes agrees to $20M settlement - Lawyers will be paid $4M, the remaining $16M will be split among developer & impacted cities. @TopherNOW

It also doesn't really matter if it's Kamala, Newsom, Whitmer etc. The point is the same. A small select group of people decided they get to handpick the Presidential candidate rather than have people vote for the candidate. It's insane and calculated.
There is no way Kamala would have been the nominee if Joe Biden dropped out before the Democratic Primary and had to run vs other candidates. The people who control Joe also control Kamala and just subverted democracy with pure election fraud and theft

Just noticed this new change with 2024.2! The car now predicts how many supercharger stalls will be available on arrival with how many cars are en route. That’s sick! @TeslaCharging @Tesla @elonmusk

Thinking today about AI, software engineering employment, and Jevon’s Paradox. Curious what my LaborTwit friends think of this: The conventional wisdom says that AI efficiencies will eat up engineering jobs. It makes intuitive sense. Every engineer grows 10x more productive, need fewer engineers. I’ve been sorta assuming this was on the horizon. But Jevon’s Paradox teaches us that efficiencies in a thing don’t result in consuming less. Gaining efficiencies makes us consume more of that thing. (Eg electricity, compute power, food, etc). So that implies we’re on the cusp of needing way more software engineers. (These folks will create a lot more output too.) Likely? Cc @ModeledBehavior @EconBerger @nick_bunker

Big heads up! This is called the significant tornado parameter, essentially the risk of seeing a tornado with ~100mph winds. Can’t say I’ve ever seen it this high for such a widespread area. Be prepared tomorrow from 2pm-7pm in the Bay Area from NW to SE. @WFLA

The potential for historic flooding tomorrow - perhaps 1-in-100 year rain event - in or around NYC is growing. Flash flooding likely. Here’s a combined future radar followed by rainfall total forecast from the GRAF model. Here’s a thread… 1/
