The government has already put huge pressure on the BBC’s finances. The cuts are becoming painful. So, if this story is true, it would be shortsighted and destructive to break the promise of an inflation-based increase in funding.

Sharp's appointment process was clearly flawed . However good he might have been as Chair, his credibility is undermined by the chummyness of his appointment over other qualified candidates. This hurts the BBC's credibility at home & around the world
