ConocoPhillips poised to become first US oil & gas company to sign development deal with Syria —— US energy company ConocoPhillips is preparing to sign an agreement with Syria’s new government to help restore gas production, the Financial Times reported on Monday, citing two sources familiar with the matter. Under the proposed deal, ConocoPhillips and Novaterra Energy would work with Syrian Petroleum Company to develop existing gas fields and explore for additional reserves. The agreement would build on a memorandum of understanding signed in November and is expected to be finalized this week, according to the report. If signed, it would make ConocoPhillips the first US oil and gas company to reach such an agreement with Syria.
