‼️ NEW: A new Sierra Club report shows that U.S. utilities are doubling down on expensive fossil fuels instead of investing in affordable, clean energy. Is your utility making you pay for pricey, dirty energy? Find out at sc.org/dirtytruth.

The @nrgenergy W.A. Parish plant is struggling to stay running. Coal = outdated, expensive, dirty. The solution? Texas-made clean energy tech that's ALREADY HERE! Sign the petition to shut this coal polluter down! tinyurl.com/waparishpetition Photo by Al Branden

Emma is a lifelong resident of Central Texas and a Sierra Club staffer. She gave powerful testimony about the physical and emotional devastation of the Texas floods this summer. She closed out her testimony to @EPA: "I hope that all of us, regardless of our political affiliation, can see the value in protecting our climate and communities."

BREAKING: Campaign Legal Center, Union of Concerned Scientists, Organization of Chinese Americans, Japanese American Citizens League, and Sierra Club have filed a lawsuit challenging Elon Musk and DOGE's unlawful and devastating funding and staffing cuts to the U.S. National Park Service and Forest Service. “American families are already feeling the effects of Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s careless and illegal cuts to our federal workforce," said Sierra Club Executive Director @BenJealous. "Firefighters and forest management staff have been dismissed as families remain on edge from the threats wildfires pose. Families wanting to enjoy our national parks, forests and monuments are being welcomed with closed signs, long lines, and unmaintained trails–before the parks’ busiest season has yet to begin."

The Pirkey coal plant in east Texas was demolished today, after years of @SierraClub advocacy. SWEPCO announced retirement for the plant back in 2020, but it finally came down today. One more TX coal plant down, 13 remaining. Go @BeyondCoal! kltv.com/video/2024/10/10/sw…

Monitoring shows that haze in Texas is mostly caused by coal plants. That's one reason why these should have to install cost-effective pollution control measures. But @tceq just doesn't wanna make friendly polluters do anything, so @EPAregion6 must step in sierraclub.org/press-release…

Massive South TX news! The Inflation Reduction Act will bring millions of $ for clean energy, high paying jobs, workforce development, & help make our grid more resilient @lamantia4texas @JanieLopezForTX @RolandForTexas @toddahunter @TxChuy Our statement: sierraclub.org/press-release…
16 electric cooperatives are *big* winners today of $7.3 billion from the federal New ERA program to pursue solar, wind, storage, and other low emissions tech. These coops serve more than 1/5th of rural America and are investing in over $29 billion in clean tech. Remarkable.

A lot of folks in TX blame hazy skies on fires in Mexico or Saharan dust, but huge coal-burning sources of haze are in our own backyards. Thankfully a @SierraClub lawsuit was just settled to force @EPA to make a decision on the haze proposal from @TCEQ. sierraclub.org/press-release…

SCOTUS just gave polluters and the states that fail to regulate them a pass to threaten our clean air. As we prepare for a summer that could be one of the worst smog seasons on record, this is a devastating outcome for public health and our communities. bit.ly/3zwveJm

"A small coal plant south of San Antonio burning the dirtiest form of coal mined at an adjacent strip mine has continued to chug along—despite a track record of poisoning the air and fouling area groundwater," writes James Courtney via @MyDeceleration deceleration.news/2024/06/19…
