The scheme is designed for sustainability over disruption and it demands exceptional DL talent to produce high sack numbers. Pressure is created through the DL talent.
Since EE runs more hybrid fronts it means that the DL is put in more 1-on-1 situations. This is where the talent gap plays into it. You can watch a22s from all season all day and see that our pass rushers just struggle to beat the man in front of them.
There are other tactics that could be used to help the EDGEs like switching to a wide-9 front (Saleh) to give the edges a wider position to beat their man, but it plays against the disguising of the fronts and where the simulated pressure could come from. It is the anti-scheme for what EE does.
This is the same system that is run in PHI, NO, and JAX (some tweaks) among others. They have invested heavily in their pass rush and CAR is likely going to continue to do the same this offseason as well as the continued development of the young EDGEs.
DMo focused on using our assets to fix our run defense this past year and we saw a massive improvement. Next up is improving this pass rush. The nice imrpovement that the
#Panthers did see were that they were 8th in INTs in the league and 10th in total takeaways due to the disguises and confusion this scheme created on QBs .
None of this is favortism of EE, it is just the facts of his scheme and what it needs to continue to improve.
So why do we suck so bad getting pressure
